Pours with a dark orangy body, few ruby highlights. Slightly cloudy with a tight off white head with good retention
Smell, thick syrupy alcohol soaked fruit, almonds and marzipan, some floral fragrant esters too. Brown bread, swirlled around in my tulip glass brings out some sticky vanilla dairy ice cream and a light note of star anise
Taste, crisp bready sweet initial flavour, tight syrupy alcoholic mouthfeel. Sweet peaches and watermelon, belgian candied sugar, a few light phenolic notes too. Dry bitterness on the finish, almost like a hint of quinine. I don't know what the hop bill was for this but if the bitterness is hops its not particularly well done, I'm a huge fan of bitter beer with huge hop profiles but this just tastes a litte odd
Quite a light belgian dark ale in flavour and colour but it packs a huge alcoholic punch in the face with a lingering alcoholic note on the finish along with some rather out of character bitterness
