33cl brown glass bottle (Best before date December 2012) served into stemware in Ghent, Antwerp. Reviewed live.
A: Half finger head of fair cream, decent thickness, and terrible retention. Yeast-ridden hazy honey-gold colour. Nontransparent.
Sm: Honey, butterscotch, medicinal muscle spray. Floral hops. Not as bad as that description might make it sound. A moderate strength scent.
T: Honey and lavender. Cough spray. Bleh. Complicated but to its detriment. I wish it were straight simple honey. Unrefreshing. The notes on the nose are all present, but overtaken by the medicinal lavender cough spray. It's a bit similar to Vick's inhaler nose spray. Eck. Hides the alcohol fairly well.
Mf: Smooth and wet, complementing the good flavours of the body, as well as the style.
Dr: Covers up its high ABV well, but the taste is inherently flawed. Leave this one on the shelf.

Poured from a 750ml into a New Belgium Goblet at about 45F.
Very nice and super earthy "organic" saison from the masters of the style. Lovely glowing orange with a very creamy and resilient head. Plenty of biscuity malt , honey sweetness, citrus esters and barnyard phunk on the nose. Taste is similar: grassy / herbal hops, balanced by tangerine / nectarine citrus, light dry maltiness and a very earthy , organic Brett funk. The honey serves as kind of an integrator to round it all out and tie it together. Probably a little bit heavier bodied and less peppery of a finish than a classic Dupont Saison, but very nice. 8% is undetectable and you could easily get in trouble with this one. I could session the hell out of this beer.
Another Belgian Classique.

Purchased 250 ml bottle from LCBO for $2.95 CDN. Was intrigued by this as it was something i haven't seen before in these parts so figured it may be worth a try. Served cool into an oversized wine glass.
Appearance- Hazy golden color with many hues of dark orange. Nice 1/2 finger of white head came and went quickly but left a decent soapy residue on top of the glass. Some effervescent bubbles are present and maybe even tiny yeast particles are also in there. Some lacing once the beer is partially consumed.
Smell - Boozy with honey maybe melon and a undercurrent of clean sanitary smells. The last is a little strange but doesn't completely wreck this as it somehow works with the booziness and the sweetness of honey and melon. Also a bit of a smokiness to my nose which may actually be than cleanness I smelled on the first whiff. Anyway there's a lot going on and it smells different but quite appealing.
Edit - after having the taste I figured the cleanness smokiness smelled a lot like minty mouthwash.
Taste - Starts fairly sweet with the honey flavors and seems very light and floral tasting on the tongue. then the alcohol kicks in and it becomes a little more like minty mouthwash. Also finishes with a bit of heat which is probably alcohol induced. Although as it warms the mouthwash resemblance slowly disappears.
Mouthfeel - Fairly rich and decadent while at the same time remaining light on its feet. Slightly dry finish, but nothing out of the norm.
Overall - While crafted and certainly different, but didn't like the seemingly mint flavors in the beer and the heat afterwards was not really to my liking. The one thing it didn't to that i had hoped it would is that the beer was not terribly refreshing. Any while certain beers styles do that more than others, at the end of the day it's just something I wouldn't buy again.
