Hazy, pale orange body. Near-extreme carbonation pushes tiny bubbles to form a tall, compact, snow-white head. Not a stellar lacing, but it is there.
Citrusy, dusty/earthy, with some champagne-type fruitiness hits the nose initially. Little Belgian yeast follows, and some ripe pear just begins to peek as it warms to the room. Clean and refreshing scent.
Unripe fruitiness and citrus peel greet the tongue, accentuated by the unexpected level of hop bitterness. Then a dusty, white peppery yeast gets into the mix right away. As it warms, there is a somehow pleasant soap taste. Tad of dry grain. No detection of any flaws or even much alcohol, though that can be felt.
Shockingly creamy, and a joy to roll around the chops. This high level of carbonation and attenuated dryness just doesn't make this seem possible - but here it is. Although the alcohol taste is very subdued, it is sensed through the feel of the swallow and subsequent breath. Finishes dry and palate cleansing, leaving one begging for another sip.
I love this Belgian Ale. I drink a lot of beers, but do not wind up with Saisons often enough due to location. I think if had my druthers, I would keep kegs of this one around for daily consumption. Masterful work of art here in complexity and drinkability.
