First had several years ago, likely my first saison or farmhouse ale, poured from 25.4 oz. bottle into goblet, and most recently poured from 11.2-oz. bottle into TEKU. Still sets a standard for the style, which is met by only a handful of other breweries.

A: pours a hazy but not quite opaque orangesque straw gold, prominent 2 finger head prominent lacing,
S: a pleasant fruity yeast quality, esters and all, balanced not powerful but definitely present, dry and wheaty, touches of lemon and citrus, definite grain notes, sweet, a very immediate but incredibly subtle touch of bitterness
T: immediate sweetness and citrus with malt and lemon as well, very balanced not overwhelming, not hoppy, a very subtle astringency but not in an off putting way, it honestly tastes like a smile, I cant think of a better way to describe it that that
M: dry, but could be moreso
O: There is no question that this is the saison upon which all others are based, though I'm not sure it's the saison upon which all others should be compared, it is delicious but in the wine like character of other saisons, i cant help but wonder if they missed the intention, this is not an uppity beer, though it is certainly smarter than your average bear, this beer begs to be enjoyed, not contemplated and so for the sheer sake of context this should be the first saison that you have, so you understand how the context of the style has changed, this beer is more blue collar in intent than it's counterparts, definitely worth your time but honestly, if your looking for what america has made the saison to be, this sure as hell isn't it, expect something entirely different and more mild in personality

This is the first Belgian I ever had... in 1982 in a restaurant in Oakland.
My girlfriend (also a blonde... who later became my first wife) pronounced Saison Dupont as "delicious."
Her opinion was worth something as she was writing her third of five books on pastry.

I have Had this Saison many times since then and, surprisingly, I have no notes.
But MJ's "Great Beers of Belgium" talks quite a bit about how Dupont became the standard for Saisons.
MJ's 1999 "Guide" gives this Saison 3.5 stars of 4 and said it "has a big, rocky, creamy head; a sharp, refreshing attack; and a long notably hoppy, dry finish."
Saison Dupont is listed in the "1001" and, of course, it deserves to be there.

On tap at Yardhouse.
Clear light amber body with a good head and decent lacing.
Mild, bready and spicy aroma precedes a much stronger flavor, Mildlty bitter, or more. Nice fruity aspect in the aroma that does not carry over to the flavor.

Excellent, lively mouthfeel.

Poured into a champagne glass.
A - Pours a hazy straw color with a large foamy white head.
S - The aroma is bready and subdued.
T - The flavor is grassy and yeasty with a hint of lemon.
M - High carbonation and medium mouth feel.
O - This is my favorite Saison, hands down. I may not have done this beer a service with my description. It is so well balanced, so delicate, so drinkable. This is not the most challenging Saison you will encounter, but it just might be your favorite too.

On tap. Pours a bright yellow with an impressive, lasting head. The nose is sweet and inviting. Bready, floral, and delicate.

The taste is well-balanced. Lemon rind, pepper, apple, and some white grape. Just a hint of hoppy bitterness on the finish. A solid, refreshing beer. Would get again.

This is the grandfather of all Saison's. Pours a clear and clean orange color with large white head. Nose of light pepper, onion and citrus, same with flavor. Love this beer!

Poured from a 375ml bottle into a tulip:

Appearance: I was totally wowed by this one. Pours a vibrant straw-yellow, with one of the best heads I've seen on any beer. Big, fat suds make up a head that continues to rise for like ten or fifteen minutes. Lots of carbonation and bubbly activity present in the glass. Semi-hazy.

Aroma: one of the weakest aromas I've smelled for a beer so well rated. It smells like straight up wheaty water, perhaps with a little bit of floral character. Honestly, it's going to sound sacrilegious, but my first thought giving this a sniff was Heineken.

Taste: makes up for the smell a little bit, but it's definitely not the greatest saison I've had. It's simple, with a very straightforward flavor profile. Solid spice and some herby, grassy flavor, to go with lots of yeast and the mild fruitiness that comes with that. Finishes nice and dry, with some ester flavor.

Feel: light to medium in body, with plentiful carbonation. Finishes very dry, with lingering yeasty flavor on the palate.

Overall: I thoroughly enjoyed this beer, but didn't love it. The smell was incredibly weak, and though the flavor was actually pretty good, I do like a nice aroma off my saisons. Overall, I'd definitely drink it again, and will do so in the spring and summer.

Nice straw coloured body with a foamy head with good retention. The scent is fairly weak, though what comes through brings up some tartness and fruitiness, very pleasant. The taste continues with lovely fruitiness and a nice balance between the tartness and hoppy bitterness, leading into a crisp finish. Over a great saison, would definitely buy again.

A really nice farmhouse that ticks all the boxes for the style. Less sweet than most American saisons. What sets it apart from any other saison I've had is the amazing head. In typical Belgian fashion, the head is huge even if you pour gently and the retention is in the order of tens of minutes. Amazing. It's just a great beer.

L: Pours a big, billowy white head, has a nice dark golden color. Head settles down into soft pillows. Carbonation is highly apparent in this beer.
S: Yeasty esters, very bready. Has the aroma of sweet, fresh baked bread. Also notes of spice, possibly corriander.
T: Very earthy and bready. Hints of citrus, with lots of that yeast ester from the nose. A bit of dryness on the finish to bring things full circle.
F: So smooth, and the body is really full. Feel is actually a bit surprising, for a beer that with this level of clarity was expecting it to have a lighter body. Also the carbonation, which looks very heavy and spritey, was actually quite light.
O: Honestly wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. I could see myself tearing through a pack of these like nothing. Drinks incredibly easy yet doesn't skimp on flavor or complexity.

Look: Hazy orange, big white head, lacing 5
Aroma: AT the onset was skunk, but that quickly faded, little funk, lightly fruity, slightly floral 4.25
Taste: Esters, fruitiness, finishes dry, spicy, al little ready 4.5
Feel: Prickly carbonation, smooth despite the high carbonation, medium body 5
Overall: Really good, but just wish it was not so old. I feel like it must have effected this beer (for better or worse). I have had the dry hopped version, which was also fantastic. 4.5

Look: Massive three or even four finger fluffy white head, clear orange-yellow body. Lots of yeast haze.

Smell: White grapes, apple, pear, honey, flowers, and a little bit of barnyard funk. Like a sun-lit orchard filled with wildflowers and a few fruit rotting on the ground.

Taste: Same as above.

Feel: Medium body, extremely high carbonation, slightly dry.

Other: A life-changing beer. Clean, refreshing flavors and smell, cloud-like carbonation. Perfect amount of dryness.

Pours a hazy golden-orange color, speckled with yeast coagulants, finished with a fluffy 1.5 finger head. Gorgeous lacing.

Aroma is yeasty, mildly funky, citrusy, with a kiss of sourness. The sourness is in the form of green apple juice and skin.

Taste is like the nose but with such a great carbonation tickle. Nice citrus, more green apple, little bit of funk, and plenty of spicy yeast. Great beer!

Overall, this is a classic example of the class. Real good stuff, but I wish it had maybe a bit more funk. I see this pairing with classic Belgian food, maybe frites and aioli or something a little more rich. It gets a 93/100.

Huge, fluffy white head that lasts until you drink it down. Straw gold body murky with sediment. Beautiful. Dry, crisp, slightly peppery, fruity and funky - it's the standard to which all saisons are compared for good reason. Outstanding beer.

Serving Type: 750 mL Bottle

A- Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a large pillowy white head with excellent retention. Fades down to a thin whispy patch. Lots of lacing on the glass.

S- Lots of Belgian Yeast, a slight Lemony note, and a good amount of "funk".

T- Same as the Aroma with the funk becoming more prevalent. Nice Dry flavour.

M- Medium-Light body with fairly high carbonation. The Mouthfeel really lends itself to the refreshing nature of the taste and aroma.

O- After finally having an opportunity to try the world-renowned Saison Dupont, I must say that I understand the hype. Saison Dupont is a beautifully flavourful and easy drinking Saison that everyone should try.

Huge billowy white head that relaxes to a lasting cap. Fuzzy lace designs are left on glass.

Funk and rounded tart, a touch of lemon-lime, merest hints of candi sweet make a wonderful aroma.

Mmm, the funk in the taste is more earthy than barnyard, strong presence, joined by vinous and light tart notes, with a background of light bitter and citrus hints.

Very dry character, light body, refreshing, high carb., and clean finish give this a mouthfeel that enhances the flavor very well.

European style saison that is a highly drinkable and delicious treat.

An exceptional classic Saison.High in ABV this beer is the father of modern saisons. Aggressive bottle conditioning means you have to let it rest for a second before pouring. easy drinking while also flavourful, lots of spice, honey, coriander, orange zest, cloves, and a nice dose of hops. This is a pretty crisp beer.

L: Poured into a Pint Defiance tulip. Two finger head, orange tinged yellow filled with floaters.

S: Plenty of Belgian yeast, some notes of honey, vague spiciness, and some unidentifiable funkiness.

T: Same as the smell, but nicely dry. Very good.

M: Medium bodied with a lot of foam going on. Bubbly carbonation prickles the tongue as the beer rolls across.
