Near perfect! Beutifully executed saison, a treat to enjoy! Pours pale golden into a trapist glass, short creamy head. Aroma of bread and citrus. Taste is grapefruit and crackers. Overall palate is perfect, mouthfeel medium weight with some sharp lingering bitterness. Delicious!

Pours hazy lemon gold with white head, smells of yeast malts and spicy hops, tastes of sharp tangy yeast with smoothing malts and a bitter finish, smooth mouthfeel with bright carbonation.

This is just an amazing beer, anyone who has never tried a saison should be given this as a reference point. They may or may not ever find success in tasting a better rendition of the style.

Beautiful in the glass, brilliant straw/gold with some haze, two fingers of head that stick around for a bit until you start drinking. Aromas dance between bready and grassy. The yeast character comes in waves, as does an earthy sort of dankness (but not resinous, this is a dry saison after all). Also some lemon notes more like lemongrass than the actual citrus fruit. Its a complicated aroma that I recommend taking your time with.

Drinks like a dream, a nice dry finish coupled with a perfect amount of effervescence. Keep a big bottle on hand for dinner parties and serve it in wine goblets, to the amazement of uninitiated guests.

750ml bottle into goblet. best before end of july 2017. consumed on may 26, 2015

a: transparent bright golden yellow but i'm sure it will get hazy once i pour some yeast in. one finger of white head

s: funky & sour lemon, band-aid-y spicy overripe banana yeasty notes, hints of light cracker-like malt, white grapes, grass

t: much like the nose. funk and lots of strong belgian yeast flavours (spices, bananas, band-aid) with notes of lemon, white grapes, grass, and malt in the mid-palate. moderate bitterness at the end

m: bubbly but not prickly carbonation in a medium-minus-bodied liquid. strong drying finish

o: the yeast flavours are a bit on the strong side for my preference but this is still some good stuff

One if the best farmhouse ales I've ever had, no wonder it's got such great press in recent years. Was recommended to me at my local store, and thankful for it! Appearance has a perfect head with unfiltered bits - beautiful looking beer. The taste has a great variety of flavor characteristics from the conditioning.

Look: Hazy Straw Yellow-Gold with explosive fluffy white head. Sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
Smell: Fresh, fruity, spicy, herbal
Taste: Beautiful complexity. At first I thought the malty sweetness was too much, but it fades into an earthy bitter dryness and a crisp finish. There are some subtle flavors going on here that defy description.
Feel: Effervescent, light, smooth

Overall: This saison disappeared too fast - it's too refreshing, too aromatic, and way too delicious. It drinks much easier than the ABV (6.5%) suggests. If only it weren't so darn expensive. The Ommegang Hennepin isn't too far behind, but I do think I liked this one more.

Very fizzy, golden hued body; rocky, thick, sticky white head. Mild citrus and spice aroma; orange peels. Tart and bitter flavor with just a touch of malt sweetness; lemons; yeasty breadiness. Medium bodied; mostly dry finish.

A fine, nicely balanced farmhouse ale. Citrus and floral flavors ebb and flow within each sip while a good tart bitterness adds enough counterpoint to things. This makes a nice beer for a light seafood or veggie meal and would make a fine deep summer thirst quencher at the end of the day. Very nice.

I poured this from a 750ml bottle into a tall weizen glass. The color is a hazy soft yellow with a mile high pillowy white head that took quite some time to reduce so I could finish the pour. The head reduced significantly, with some strong lacing for the duration. The smell is slightly musty, with lemon and yeast very much up front. The taste is complex and satisfying. Notes of lemon mingle with chalky yeast and just a slight bitterness. Lots of carbonation, it's like watching a lava lamp! A dry finish that has a lingering lemony finish. I can see why this is a standard for Farmhouse Ales/ Saisons. Excellent, money well spent.

12.7 oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

Appearance: Hazy yellow with a big, sticky white head. Lots of lacing.

Aroma: Musky and musty with some earth and grass. Spices present. Faint citrus.

Taste: Pretty complex - there's that musty, sour character from the nose, some citrus rind, earth, spices and maybe a little lemon.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and dry. Approachable despite the fairly complex flavor profile.

Overall: Classic beer. Not much to say about this one other than that it's the template for modern interpretations of a justifiably beloved style. I paired with lentil soup, bread and some tomme.

Vieille Provision Saison Dupont. 6.5% ABV.

A: Almost two fingers of fluffy head. Peach yellow in the glass. Hazy white in the dimple. Some slight lacing. Very faint sheeting.

S: Musky, earthy sourness, up front. Slight hay. Grapefruit citrus note.

T/MF: Surprising peach fuzz note! Fairly foamy in the mouth, though not quite as much so as Champagne. More earthy, dirty funk. Grapefruit peel bitterness on the finish.

It's not bad, but I had been led to believe this to be at the pinnacle of saisons. If that's true, color me disappointed.

Poured from a 375mL bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.

What do you say about a beer that practically defines a style for many of us. To me, this beer has the perfect saison nose with just the right notes of yeast, spice, and esters. Aside from that, it is obviously a solid saison, although the flavor doesn't blow me away like the nose.

I am new to Saisons but from the moment that I popped the cork, I had a feeling I was in for something special from its smell. It has a yeasty yet citrus-like scent. It's kind of ugly in a glass with particulates floating in the glass, but the flavor is tart and bitter all at once. This is a bold-flavored beer that won't be for everyone but I find it crisp and refreshing. It's my current obsession.

Look- cloudy peach color. Massive foamy head and creamy lacing. Lively carbonation is clearly visible.
Smell- loads of fruit; pear, bannana, citrus, and maybe some mango. Earthy aromas predominate especially as drink warms.
Taste- fruity sweetness; green grape and white wine like, also pear. Lots of malts. Sweetness is balanced by yeasts and a dry slightly hoppy finish. Tart and slightly boozy.
Feel- light and drinkable. A great warm weather drink and great with food.
I loved it and will have again!

Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Best before nov - 2017.

Pours clear, golden with a three finger high, fluffy white head that sinks down to a thin layer pretty fast.

Nose: Belgian yeast, grass, hay, citrus, sweet malt and spices.
Taste: Citrus, grass, spices, herbs, peach, orange and green apples.
Body: Medium body with crisp carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. Very balanced.

I can understand why this Saison has set the "standard" for all others!

Color is golden and clear, huge head that quickly vanishes. Aroma of malt, citrus and even a little frankincense. There's a nice and subtile bitterness in the taste, which makes it an enjoyable, thirst-quenching beer.

For me, Saison may be the ultimate warm-weather beer. It's fitting then that Saison Dupont, widely hailed as the style's best, have a complexion like a bright, sunny summer day. Dainty bubbles dance in a continuous loop. Yet haziness lends it some weight, as does a head so thick it resembles a king size memory foam mattress.

Soon as I opened the bottle an intense puff of skunk smell filled the air - light strikes again! I guess even great brewers have to be reminded not to use green glass. Luckily the sulfur scent tapers and closer inspections unearth aromas of overripe orchard fruits, grass, and cereal grain.

Spice really strikes on the palate; the yeast fires off peppery phenols like roman candles. Prickly carbonation, medium-high citrusy acidity and a not-exactly-hidden 6.5% alcohol compound the kick. But there's very little heat in the finish - it fades into the background of lightly honeyed cereal grain, allowing flavours of apricot and pear to come to the fore.

It feels crazy that such a zesty, yeasty and fruity beer could also be called "creamy" but, in fact, that's a good way to describe this mouthfeel. (Hell it's probably that solid finger's worth of foam!) Both soft and substantial, it offers casual and quick drinkability but has the nuances to slow consumption.

I can proclaim with complete certainty that among the best Saison I've tried was a bottle labeled "Saison Dupont Vieille Provision". However, I can also say that this beer has struck me, as often as not, as a merely good (not great) representation of the style. Not sure how to account for the discrepancy except to suggest that 'fresher is better'. But I'd strongly recommend it either way.

Review taken many times over the past few years.

11.2oz brown bottle with a classic shape much like a Rochefort bottle. an even better label with artwork that just fits this style and brewery. Classic with yellow and white checkered over top a dark green background. I fell in love with this bottle. Poured into a stemmed Belgian tulip glass. A thinner tulip with just a touch of flare at the top.

A - golden yellow with a copper tone to it. Fluffy white head poured massive even with a slow pour and eventually clumped it's way into a white fluffy pillow of white stickiness.

S - ripe pear, apple, and even hints of peach give off a semi tartness up front. Wonderful funky yeast notes wrap themselves around classic farmhouse spices for an exceptional aroma. Maybe even the greatest of all farmhouse aromas

T - flavor starts with more of that great Dupont yeast with some funkiness to it. Lemon drops and a soft peach backbone really flow well together. The fruitiness borders tart apple notes but also leans toward citrus notes. A real fresh taste even with the farmhouse funk. The malts and fine yeast really let you jump into such a complex saison with joy.

M - medium bodied farmhouse ale with texture as good as it comes with the style. This is reason for so many inspirations of farmhouse ales all over the states. It's smooth but carbonated yet overwhelmingly refreshing.

O - I love saison dupont and try to pick a few up on a regular basis. Just a staple for what a great saison can be. If you can get this I suggest you do so. This is a bottle of greatness

Poured a gorgeous cloudy golden body with one and a half fingers of thick, foamy head. Overall impression of appearance is of a nice saison, very true to form. Scents of light tea, moderate levels of honey, light dank, cellar-like aromas, high levels of floral hops with some herbal character, spicy phenols at a moderate level with notes of clove and white pepper, sweet, fruity aromas, particularly orange and tangerine at high levels. Overall impression of flavor is of a fantastic saison. It captures the fruity character of the style nicely, with a good hit of phenols and a nice presence of hops, true to the style. A good, classic saison that is quite nice. Flavor begins lightly dry with notes of honey and medium-high levels of floral, herbal hops with medium-light notes of lemon zest, light phenols with a white pepper character and a bit of fruity esters with an orange quality. Middle is lightly dry with notes of honey, spicy phenols with notes of white pepper, herbal hops and a light hint of alcohol. Finish is dry with notes of herbal hops, some spicy hops, notes of white pepper, softly sweet malt and a light lemon zest and orange zest character. Aftertaste is dry with notes of herbal and spicy hops and a bit of white pepper. Overall impression of flavor is of a classic saison, nothing off, fantastic, balanced and true to style. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with effervescent carbonation, some prickly tartness and an overall drying feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of an excellent true to style saison. Quite nice. Overall this is an amazing saison. It has a wonderful aroma and flavor, truly fitting the style, and a mouthfeel that compliments the flavor.

Pours a very murky, cloudy, straw-orange color. With foamy white head. Good retention. Head recedes to a thin layer of lacing with some suds remaining around the edges.

Aroma has some very, very strong grassiness. Wheat and yeast. Black pepper. Quite a bit of funkiness.

Taste is similar to the nose. Some maltiness is now present. Pepper. Grassiness is still there. Hint of citrus. Lemony notes. Lemon and wheat come on stronger as it warms. Finishes dry with a bit of tartness.

Light bodied. Crisp and dry. Good carbonation. Very easy to down a few of these.

Overall, one of the better saisons I've had. Not my favorite style, but this one gets out and achieves everything it tries to do. Nails all the flavors, great appearance, and easy to drink.

Nice appearance, of a golden ocher color and a nice bubbling whitey foam.
Really spicy one. Sweet banana and cloves in the smell, with a lot of earthly tones.
In the mouth is even more earthly and is possible to feel a nice bitterness from the moment taste it till way after you swallow it.
Great feel, somewhat effervescent in the mouth.

Ideal Saison. When I think: "man, I could go for a saison on this hot day." This is what I am hoping for.
Giant sudsy head, very strong smell of citrus, particularly lemon, traces of herby spices.
Taste is the same but with a rich oat/wheat taste as well, and a slight funkiness followed immediately by a dry, crisp finish.
It is light and refreshing yet so complex.
A hefty amount of carbonation which is very appreciated.
My only complaint would be the body, I actually wish it was a little thinner.
Best light beer I've ever had.
