The creation of the Saison Dupont Cuvée Dry Hopping goes back to 2010. It is a blond beer, top fermented and just as the traditional Saison Dupont with refermentation in the bottle. The specialty of this Saison is the dry hopping*. A Slovenian variety « Styrian Wolf » has been used which produces the more intensive hop aromas and touches of fruit (in particular passion fruit and pine resin). It became a coppery blond beer, dry and thirst-quenching with a bitterness and soft bitter aftertaste. Our selection of yeasts creates the aromas and bitter taste. A real refermentation in the bottle, which can go on for a long time in your cellar, results in a complex and very aromatic beer.

Shared magnum bottle at RBNAG 2011, as Saison Dupont Cuvée Dry Hopping, vintage 2011. ABV 6.5%. Hazy straw colour, moderate white head. Grassy hops in the aroma. Decent hoppy bitterness in the flavour. Can’t really say that it’s so much better than the ordinary Saison Dupont - but might be able to tell the difference if I sampled them side by side?

Bottle Date is: L19222A - I'm guessing this is 2019 and shame on my local bottle shop. (If that's true - I'm looking at you, Shangy's.)

A - Hazy medium golden orange with some floaties suspended in the beer. Lacing is consistently thick, creamy, and bright white.

S - Aroma is entirely sweet malt with citrus residue lingering in the background.

T - Follows the nose with sweet malt from start to finish and ghost-like citrus that barely makes itself known, like a faded shadow cowering in the corner. There's some very faded pine that pops up on the backside to add a very light amount of bitterness.

M - Medium body with soft carbonation.

O - I'll re-visit this review when I find a fresher bottle.

A relative review to it's Big Brother.
Darker, less head on pour, dryer, less carbonation and more bitter in flavour.
Saison Dupont is a go-to for me so it's always difficult to better it.
I think the main thing lacking is that wondrous zesty all-filling mouthfeel of the original's soft, soft carbonation that lasts forever...

Gold body with a dash of copper, unfiltered. Big, fluffy, angel-white head with great retention of several minutes.
Yeast spice aromas, whispers of banana, maybe a faint touch of citrus/spice hops.
Flavour is forward on the yeast spice, with biscuit/bready malt forming the backbone, touches of orange/lemon zest, and a very dry finish accentuated by light-medium hop bitterness. Effervescent, fine carbonation and medium body, with soft feel.

Nice balance on this one, delightfully dry, simple clean flavour. Feels sophisticated in it's simplicity, it grows on you.

A blend of a saison and Belgian hoppy beer makes its introduction through a pour with a generous head and light copper tones. The nose is herbal sour with hops in the background.
The saison is at the front end of the body, while the dry hops finish off the taste nicely. The lingering bitterness is not desirable but I still liked this beer.

Poured from a 1 pint 9.4 ounce corked and caged bottle into a tulip glass, the date on cork is 2019.

APPEARANCE: pours a cloudy, straw color with two-fingers billowing head even with a careful pour, highly carbonated, heavy lacing on the glass, this is a beautiful beer to be sure.

SMELL: sweet and fruity with some farmhouse funk and wet hay.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet and fruity then some pine and farmhouse funk on the finish.

PALATE: medium body and highly carbonated.

OVERALL: this is a terrific Farmhouse Ale, it's very flavorful and I love this hop variety but this beer still remains true to the style, to me Saison Dupont has no equal when it comes to this style, I have enjoyed every beer from this brewer, I will have this again for sure and recommend to anyone who enjoys the style.

2017 vintage, Styrian Eureka

Hazy saturated golden orange, billowing head of foam that towers over the rim of the glass, looking more like a huge dollop of whipped cream. Tiny streams of carbonation race upward.

Aroma is softly sweet and fruity, some light minerality and barn straw notes.

Taste has a light yeasty fruitiness, bready malt that is a touch oxidized by now, Froot Loops cereal, and a mild hop bitterness. Seems sweeter than the standard issue Saison Dupont, maybe a lightly fruity hop character as well.

Effervescent and smooth, medium bodied with ample carbonation. Somewhat rustic character, well water and tangy yeast. Overall this was nice to try, though i’ll be sure to look for a date on the bottle next time.

750 poured into a snifter glass. Pour is a hazy light golden with an inch of sticky foam from the bottle conditioned package. The Styrian Wolf dry hopping has no effect on the wonderful effervescense of the delivery but does add a nice aroma to the delivery, yet seems to detract a bit from the base beer, as expected. Taste is rich and full with a battle between the saison yeast and the hop notes. Hops become a bit soapy at times vs. the classic dupont character.

Dry hopping a saison might seem counter intuitive to many Belgian brewers, but they haven't suffered through many lame attempts of the style by American brewers. The subtleties of yeast are lost somewhat here, yet that is the point.....to an American drinking it.

Think I'll stick to the classic version in the future and encourage gringo brewers to dry hop away for lack of understanding yeast dynamics. Cheers..

I’ma call this one a “portrait beer” because it pours like a piece of art. Yeah, it’s almost like Rembrandt brewed this one in his backyard. Almost.

Anyway, the damn thing just glows a beautiful golden straw like William Holden’s horse chewing on his lunch. Then the nose...the nose! The hops are pungent, yet faint and delicate all at the same time. I assume making love to a proper English girl like Kate Beckinsale is similar in feel. On my golden tongue is all OG Saison DuPont, but then with those Styrian Wolf hops that make a playa go awooooooooo!

Get some!

“Styrian Wolf”
Dull gold, slightly veiled with abundant white foam with medium fine texture and good resistance. Scent of white bread, crackers, honey, white flowers, citrus fruits, spices and herbaceous, a little sour. On the palate there is a good malty and fruity base, citrus fruits, tropical fruit, flowers, pepper and hops with herbaceous hints. Final bittering, pinching and with a light return of lemon peel. The body it is crisp, thirst-quenching and well balanced.
