The first of the Malt Monster Series to be released, Wallace, WeeHeavy is an intense, malty brew that put our system to the test. A six hour boil gives a deep rich caramel complexity with a slight nuttiness and hints of roast, complimented with a clean, smooth, warming quality that provides exceptional balance.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 2014. Pours fairly crystal clear dark ruby red, light copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of huge raisin, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, vanilla, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge raisin, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, vanilla, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal, grassy, spicy, roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark fruits, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, nuts, toasted biscuit, brown bread/crust, licorice, molasses, vanilla, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance; and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and slightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 9.8%. Overall this is an amazing wee heavy! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/drying finish; amazingly soft feel. Perfectly balanced between super rich malts and fruity English yeast complexity; with mild earthy hops. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly amazing offering, and world class style example. Really blew me away vs expectations, one of the best I've had in the style. Aged wonderfully after 5 years. Best beer I've had from them, so it's unfortunate they closed. Really enjoyed their big beers.

Appearance: Pours out with a beautiful bubble show, the head settling in at two inches above the ice tea colored liquid
Smell: Treacle, raisins, fig, brown sugar and woody tones
Taste: Treacle drizzled over raisins and fig; earthy, woody elements building through the middle; the finish is sweet with dried fruit undertones
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: A fairly impressive Wee Heavy; lacks some peat and other elements to bring depth but still quite good

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #89 (June 2014):
Malty, Viscous, Boozy
We need more Wee Heavies. Like this hazy, dark copper beer, with a creamy tan head and its malty, bready, nose with big raisin, grape, and boozy aromas. Pours thick and syrupy, near viscous, with a malty sweet foundation, toffee, coffee, honey, bready, earthy, grape, coin, blood, a mild floral bitterness, and a raisiny bite with pepperly alcohol across the palate. A damn fine example of the style, but take heed as this malty, booze monster will sneak up on you.

Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with a pinky of fast-falling tan head. Nice thick look to it. Near zero head retention & a little bit of lacing
S: Breadyness, slight smokeyness
T: Peaty, leafy hops, figs & raisins up front. Figgyness, slight peatyness, some booze warmth as this warms, also some leafy hops, a little bit of cherry juice as well. Finishes warming, peaty, with leafy hops & figgyness
MF: Medium bodied, light carbonation, warming, needs to be a little thicker for the style
Drinks easy for the style. A nice one to try, but not one I would buy again

Poured into a balloon glass.
The beer is a deep mahogany color with a lot of ruby coming through. No head, no lacing. Syrupy sweet malts in the nose and tongue with lots of warming alcohol. Almost a cinnamon spiciness about it. Great sipper, I really would love this in colder months.
