P: Into a glass from 12 oz. bottle. Picked this up for a Friday night. Not a huge witbier fan, but I was feeling adventurous.

A: Medium-to-solid gold colour. Good carbonation, a bit of a head on this guy. Lacing, not so much.

S: A good balance going on between the wheat and the sweet. First you get what promises to be a bit bitter, then followed up the sweet.

T: My prediction was correct. First you get hint of the bitter, then more a gentle kiss of sweet than I was expecting (not that that's a bad thing), and then back to bitter.

M: A little slick, but not a much as I was expecting. Lighter than some witbiers I've had.

O: Definitely not a January beer, but I wasn't really in the mood for a porter or imperial stout. I need to study tonight. Wondering what else Fort Collins offers...

meant to be a summer beer, but im not sure i would even enjoy it then. smells sour from the pomegranate juice, and a little bready from the yeast. tart and off a little. taste is a more intense version of the smell, really funky juicy vibe clashing with a wheat base, not nice at all. these flavors are just not complimentary here. mouthfeel is fine, but the tartness sort of dries out the mouth, not what i would be looking for on a summer day here on the front range. for collins makes some excellent beer, but this isnt one of them

12 fl oz bottle served in a weizen glass, reviewed live:

A - Pours a nearly transparent straw golden color with a white 2 finger head. Retention is below average. Looks carbonated well and is generally appealing.

S - Pale malt, barley, and crisp wheat. surprisingly no fruit on the nose. Really mild.

T - Finally the pomegranate comes through, even though it's subtle. A very solid wit foundation builds the beer, with a very nice tart pomegranate flavor. Refreshing.

M - light and crisp. Nearly ideal for the style.

D - Surprisingly, one of FCB's best brews. Very nice overall example of the style.

Out of a bottle this beer was a bright golden color with a white finger’s worth of head. The retention was not very good and it left thin bands of lacing. The aroma was of citrusy hops, tart fruit, pale malt and wheat. The flavors were very tart with notes of pomegranate, berries, citrusy hops and a twang of wheat. It tasted off to me, however, too tart and misbalanced. I wonder if it was not stored properly or just didn’t age well. I feel it should be better than the example I had. The mouthfeel was a bit thin, the body medium/light and the carbonation average.

Pomegranate Wheat? Hmmmm.

Pours a cloudy straw color with a reasonable sized cream colored head that dissapates to a slight film over the brew. Light lacing. Berry aroma with light wheat. Reminds me of a fruit juice. The taste definitely displays some pomegranate, I think, but has a wheat backbone on the swallow. Tangy (almost harsh) finish with some rind-like characteristics. Juicy comes to mind as well. Overall I applaud the effort to add pomegranate to beer but this (and most fruit beers) was just so-so for me.

Ground control to Major Tom - we have a mayday situation on our hands...

I didn't think things would end up like this. Really, I wanted to like this beer. Pomegranates are so "in" right now and who doesn't love a good wheat beer? I do, except for the times when I see "wheat" on the side of the bottle and get duped.

This was one of those instances.

It was missing, right up there with the head, lacing, body, and most other aspects of a beer that get me excited when I open it up and pour it out. Yes, this was a liquid and probably had some malted barley and hops somewhere in the midst of the syrup and misfired attempt at flavor. I'm sure there was wheat in this too even though this was nearly clear as I held it up to the light. No matter, at least I can had a chance to sip and enjoy this...

On second thought, maybe this would taste better as I worked my way down my glass and this warmed up.

Of course, that was wishful thinking. What I ended up with was something resembling flat club soda with a moderate body and a golden hue that looked like some pomegranate syrup was added in for good measure.

Lest I need bee reminded that this is a craft beer and I would expect that some thought and effort was put into this. Instead, I ended up with something that should have just said "beer" on the side of the bottle, like a prop in a movie that has to be nameless as not to violate any copyright laws.

Maybe if it was 80 and sunny right now, I could have enjoyed a few of these. For those looking for a fruit beer, or a wheat beer, or a session beer, or a...oh, hell! Just move on to something else. You probably couldn't do much worse - isn't that right Major Tom?

A- light gold in color with no head. No lacing either.

S- biscuity and faint hint of fruit. light malt smell as well.

T- hay and light pomegranate spice. biscuity/doughy as well.

M- dry and doughy with mild tartness.

O- its a nice effort to combine the wheat with pomegranate but i dont think it works. It is a nice beer to give a try but i wont have another.

From the mixed 12 pack.

Pours a clear gold color with a thin almost non existent head.

Aromas are lightly sweet and creamy, not much going on with the nose though.

Taste is doughy and surprisingly kind of spicy from the wheat. Nice general tartness, with just hints of pomegranates. There is a soft creamy sweetness, and a crisp and dry finish.

Mouthfeel is soft and light, with decent snappy carbonation.

Overall, this is an OK fruit beer. While I can't say I love it, it's more interesting than I thought it would be.

12oz->Summer Ale Pint
A ~ Pours burnt orange with lively carb. No lacing. Nice color.

S ~ 2 note nose: Pomegranate & Grains...touch of Jam

T ~ Wheat..Hay..Pomegranate..bit of berry & spice..not much to warrant the "Witbier" moniker.

M ~ Crisp & juicy with alot of pomegranate flavors. Sadly, they get a little too sweet after awhile.

D ~ I long for a little hops to play second note to the pomegranate. Overall a bland experience. Pomegranate in beer is a good idea, but this one needs major refining.

Pours a hazy orange color with a thick white head that fades fast into a thin film and leaves ok lacing.

The aroma is of sweet wheat, grainy straw, some bitter citrus notes and pomengrantite.

The taste follows with faint pomegranite riding on top of a sweet wheat and toast backbone.

Subtle, light, grainy, and rough around the edges.

Easy to drink, but nothing impressive.

From the Brewer's Lunchbox mixed pack.

Pours a slightly hazy light orange with a small 1/2 inch white head that fades to a film on the top of the beer. Distinct rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, spices, and crushed pomegranate arils. Taste is of wheat, bread, and some bitter pomegranate flavors on the finish. The bitterness is mild and quickly fades. The mouthfeel on this one is crisp and bubbly. Overall, this is a decent fruited beer with more of an emphasis on the bitterness found in some pomegranates rather than a sweetness.

This brew poured out as a golden color with a white fluffy head on top. The lacing was minimal on this brew and not really that impressive. The smell of the beer was fruity and had some aromas of fresh grains in there too. The taste has a tart pomegranate flavor to it. The flavor also settles into a slight sweetness. The mouthfeel is light and pretty easy to drink. Overall this beer is a decent fruit beer, I'm not big on this specific fruit so I probably won't need to drink it again.

Served on tap at Fort Collins Brewery:

A- nice golden color, with a white head

S- light smell which makes you search for more. Pomegranate hints in the aroma

T- Extremely sweet, nice pomegranate flavor. Not too 'wheaty', not too sweet

M- Nice feel, great carbonation, nice sweet aftertaste

O- Great for a sweet fruity beer, which are usually not my favorite. Nice fruit taste, without all of the sugary rush that goes with it

poured from a 12oz bottle to a pint glass.

A: Golden color that poured with a nice white head that slowly disappeared to a thin layer.

S: Fruity aroma that had a slight funky artifical fruit aroma to it.

T: Had an upfront wheat beer taste with a back end pomegranate flavor coming through.

M: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation.

O: Light refreshing beer to drink during a hot summer day. Would have liked more pomegranate flavor to come through.

Smell: Wheat earthy hops and a hint of pomegranate

Taste: Upfront the beer is very wheaty and the backend end carries a kind of funky fruit note that could only be the pomegranate

Mouthfeel: Light in body with high carbonation and easy drinkability crisp and clean on the finish

Overall: Not a bad little beer. I think the first sip you take the flavor kind of shocks the palate but each sip afterwards became more and more enjoyable

33cl brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a La Chouffe tulip in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Reviewed live.

A: Pours a two finger head of slight cream, fair thickness, and good retention. Colour is a clear dark yellow.

Sm: Musty wheat and a light raspberry ester. No pomegranate comes through even though I look for it. A mild strength aroma all around.

T: A pleasant light wheat and barley foundation with a light ester on the climax which I suppose must be pomegranate; it isn't raspberry. Not horribly complex, but effective for what it is. It's bold not to go with the usual orange peel witbier approach, but that said it's not too effective for what it is. Well built and balanced.

Mf: Smooth and a bit coarse on account of the wheat. Doesn't really suit the style or the flavours. Should be wet.

Dr: Maybe they should use real pomegranate juice instead of concentrate. It's very affordable here in Colorado but not horribly drinkable on account of the coarseness. It's worth a try, but I won't get it again.

Poured golden with the barest touch of haze. Up front wheat character is clean and straightforward along the American Pale Wheat style. What I suppose is the pomegranate kicks in mid-way through, although I was not able to discern any particular flavor of that fruit. What did present was a bit artificial bittersweetness with the sweet aspect almost hinting at Belgian candy sugar (or immitation Belgian candy sugar). Drinkable, but not particularly enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours goldenrod with a medium white head. Good head retention spotty lace. Way too clear for a wit, but I wont ding it for that, odds are it's a mis-categorized American wheat.

S: Light pomegranate, some husky grain, with vegetal notes which weren't to my liking.

T: The pomegranate is clearly noticable and is a pleasing addition to the brew. Light malt character, clean. Hops come in on the back end and clash with the first act, 35 IBUs is probably too much for this style as it's clearly disjointed. Although as the beer gets some air it gets more structured and this goes away to an extent. First half is nice, second half not so much.

M: Light-bodied, clean finish - really nothing to tell you this is a wheat beer at all, the filtration is clear. Semi-crisp.

O: This is a hot weather beer, and this is the only time I'd ever drink it, however there is a ton in the 'wit' category at a similar price that's better. The pomegranate adjunct could make it a try if you enjoy that fruit.

A pomegranate wheat beer? Oh yeah, I've gotta try this. Review is from notes taken on 8/3/2011 and poured from the bottle to a pint glass.

Appearance: Dark yellow, coppery color and it starts with a full, one finger, slightly off-white head with moderate retention; body is crystal clear, and shows strong carbonation bubbling up throughout;

Smell: Could be a bit stronger, but there is a bitter, toasty/husky graininess to it; lightly fruited in the back; slight citric hop bitterness.

Taste: It's not bad -- up front, it really tastes like a straight up witbier with plenty of toasty and wheat graininess and a slightly citric (lemon?) hop bitterness; at first I'm disappointed as there is not much of a presence at all of the pomegranate, but towards the back of the flavor profile there is a slightly sweet and syrupy pomegranate flavor that I wish was much stronger.

Mouthfeel: Light in body, with a strong and spritzy carbonation to it; semi-dry, sticky thin coating is left on the roof of the mouth that holds some of the hop and grainy bitterness. Pretty refreshing, ultimately.

Overall: Well, I wouldn't say it lived up to my expectations -- as mentioned, I was really hoping for a stronger fruit presence (kind of like how DFH does the Aprihop); decent flavors though in the end and it is a pretty refreshing summer drink. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but I certainly wouldn't turn it down if someone offered it to me.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a golden yellow with little head. Nose offers wheat and yeast, but I don't pick up a strong fruit presence. Little if any pomegranate in the nose. Taste offers a little more fruit but mainly in the finish. The pomegranate is overall very faint. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and highly carbonated. I was looking for a little more in this one, but not a bad beer for the summer.

S-Very sweet butterscotch with a green apple aroma. No notes of pomegranate.

T-Wheat upfront with some notes of very mild pomegranate and blackberry on the finish.

M-Very slick and well carbonated with a light to medium body.

Has a fairly tart and fruity aroma to it....like a tart apricot smell, but of course it's actually pomegranate. Who actually knows how that fruit smells anyway?

Pours dark golden and clear...little to no head. Not very remarkable there.

The taste follows the aroma with a tart fruitiness prevailing in the body, presumably from the pomegranate juice concentrate that the label mentions. Again, it's tough for me to differentiate that from another fruit, such as apricot, because pomegranate isn't exactly a fruit I eat often. The wheat shows up mildly in the back, helping to finish the beer off. A small bitterness is also present, just barely tingling the tongue.

Pretty refreshing and drinkable, if not unremarkable. Decent summer beer here....not much to really think about when drinking it.

Pours a crystal clear golden honey, one finger of head, thick white lacing...

Smells zesty with yeast and fruit in the back. It would be hard to say it smells like pomegranate because that fruit really doesn't have much of an aroma in the first place.

Fruit forward, wheat back. A sweetness light and staying hits the tongue and hops join in the after effects.

Mouth feel is more medium bodied than the wheats I'm used to, a nice change and the full blast carbonation leaves one a happy advocate

Overall it is lacking smell, good in flavor, great in feel. Not a bad drink. I
