Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a thin head that soon becomes a small patch that comes and goes with gentle swirling.

The smell is of toffee and dark sweet chocolatey malt. Some dark fruit underneath.

The taste is of chocolate and toffee - sweet. Bittering hops in the back control the sweetness. Smokiness in the finish.

Nice medium to full body for the style. Creamy and smooth with just the right amount of carbonation.

Delicious - A very nice interpretation of the style. I especially like the smoky twist in the finish.

Thanks to bitterbill for including this one. Very enjoyable!

Black color with a small yet respectable head with a bubbly lace.
The aroma of malts, coffee, toffee and caramel.

The taste started with smoky malts, chocolate hints, coffee and a dash of oatmeal.
The feel was light body, medium to high carbonation and hop bitterness. Some mild metallic notes.

Notes: A really good beer which I thoroughly enjoyed.I will look for this one. Summer or winter this one is a treat.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a very deep brown with a light white head, spotty lace.

S: Nice note of campfire smoke with a lot of dark chocolate.

T: Real nice dark chocolate and roast flavour with that background smoke. Subtle hint of dark fruit in the finish.

M: Medium-bodied, smooth, creamy, a bit spritzy.

O: The winner of the Fort Collins mix pack is the Kidd Lager. Excellent flavour and very much to style, the smoked malt adds a nice touch. Just wish I got more than the one bottle in the mix pack.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a fizzy, fading tan-colored head.

Smell: Smoke-infused, dark roasted malt aroma with plenty of chocolate and dark caramel.

Taste: This brew is loaded with an abundance of rich malt flavors, especially creamy chocolate and caramel, but there's also a slight nuttiness to it. A subtle roasty ashen character soon devlops along with the smokiness. Finishes smooth with only a light, delicate spicy hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Creamy mouthfeel.

Drinkability: A notably tasty, extremely drinkable lil' schwarzbier. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar and should not be trusted.

Deep black coloration, thick, puffy cocoa-colored head. Nice lookin'...

Cocoa in the nose, nuts, spices, and raw hops, as well...most like commerical cocoa mix, than anything else, Swiss Miss, Quik, whatever...potently piney, oddly enough, for a schwarzbier...A mocha-espresso-ccino, or something like it, with a spritz of PacNW hoppiness.

Smooth and delicious in the taste...yum...powdered cocoa continues to dominate the flavor, very smooth and creamy, can't be beat. Overtly chocolatey, but a Hell of a Schwarzbier, gotta tell ya!

Not a great pour for a schwarz. Translucent. More of a very dark red than a black. Ruby near the bottom and all over when held to a light. Decent head.

HEAVY chocolate smell mixed with schwarz smoke. All sorts of chocolate--milk and dark and powdered and syrup. A little bit of potting soil in their, too.

Nice heavy chocolate falvor with a middle muddied by smoke and an end of sour hops and more coco. Brisk, nicely aged. Tingles of fruit on the back of my tongue.

Another great example of the style from Fort Collins.

Clear midnight copper topped with a plump fluff of beige.
It smells of coffee grounds, burnt prairie, and cocoa.
Begins with a semi-acrid coffee bean note, quelling over time to caramel, chocolate, and roasted grain. It lingers with a toasted dark bread notion, then a brief yelp of blackberry. Clean through the middle, and evidently well-lagered, with its free-flowing briskness. Ends with a reedy Hallertau bitterness, and a continuing burned caramel.
Medium-light bodied, and deftly structured and dymanic in the mouth. Fluffly, without being gaseous or abrasive. Weigh is carried in the flavor, as this absolutely screams down the chute.
This is very nice drinking schwarz. Kudos.

12 oz. Nearly black pour, thing layer of white head. Does retain pretty well.

Aroma has toasted malt and quite a bit of milk chocolate.

Taste is a smooth chocolate, light roast coffee and lighter anise. Faintest herbal tones. Finishes pretty dry with some cocoa.

Another in the style that makes for a session drink. Lighter bodied but quite smooth.

This style is definetely my under the radar favorite, so many I've tried I have been really satisfied with.

A- The Kidd is a dark, dark beer, but not opaque. More like a reddened black, but this beer is hella dark. Not much head to it, though. The half finger head, gray-tanish melts away to wisps skating across the surface.

S- Big smell of woody smoke and porter-like malts. In fact, in a blind smell, I would take this for a porter. Earthen grains, peanut butter, slight crisp hops at the edges, but mostly roasted malts and a rich smokiness.

T- Again, lots of porter character. A malt forward beer, and my personal preference. Very little hops here, a lingering bitterness in the finish, that's about it. Nothing about this beer is aggressive at all, it has a easy flavor, nothing extreme. Schwarzbier is such an underrated style, I don't know why I don't see more of this. This is a very tasty beer, it is a unique style and flavor, but it holds much reward inside.

M- Medium light body, subtle carbonation, nice smoothness, spot on feel, maybe a pinch less bubbles in the finish.

D- Good drinkability, the earthy character may be less appealing as a session beer. This is more like a beer for a specific purpose; a jonesing for a black lager, to be paired with a meal. I wouldn't necessarily want to drink this all night.

Pours a dark reddish brown color with one inch of tan head that hung around for awhile. The head eventually settles to a thin cap. Thin lacing is left on the glass. Malty aroma with notes of chocolate. More roasted than what is typical for the style. Not as roasted in the flavor. More hints of chocolate with some earthiness thrown in. A real good tasting Schwarzbier. These beers are not suppose to have big bodies but this felt a little thin. Nice carbonation. Another good American Schwarzbier. In fact I am enjoyed the ones produced domestically than the German imports.

Poured from bottle into pint glass a cola color with small amt of white head, no lacing observed down the glass. Smells of chocolate, also has a sweet malty smell and slight hint of yeast. Taste is a smoky malt flavor, with a hint of chocolate. Pretty easy drinking, smooth beer. Very interesting beer, nice change of pace because I rarely drink this style.

Dark crimson tone. Very nice clarity. Thin and bubly chocolate brown head. Lace is quite full. Pretty nice aroma of smoked malts and chocolate here. Nice mixture of caramel malts and roasted malts with the slight emphasis being on the roasted characteristics. A little smokiness as well. Very palatable and quite drinkable. Even keeled mouthfeel with a very drinkable aspect about it. One of the better Schwarzbiers I've had in a while.

One of my favorites from this brewery. Always fun to have a lager, that has more to it than just being a pilsner type style.

A - Dark Brown ruby color, tan head that vanished pretty quick.
S - dark brown sugar, root beer, burnt sugar or smoke
T - clean and full. smokey and toasty. bread/toast finish.
M - good and clean, lasting
D - great alone or with food.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of roasted coffee, lager yeast, dark malts and a faint touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a strong roasted malt character that is quickly followed by a strong black coffee flavor, then touches of smokiness and dark fruit. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly smoky.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, very good representation of style, this is a very solid beer to drink for a long time if you're in the mood for the style.

This one pours from 12oz bottle a deep brown with reddish hues and a medium sized head of tannish foam. After a few minutes, it settles down to a fine broken layer with lots of lacing.

The smell has a lot of chocolate and grain in the nose.

The taste is big on the chocolate up front but it's a semi-sweet chocolate. Could be desribed as a cocoa flavour. Further sips in and I'm getting some caramel with a bit of a hop bite that makes for, an overall, very balanced flavour. The finish has a touch of smoke to it. Very nicely done indeed. The flavours work so well together; tast, really smooth, and very darn drinkable. Good mouthfeel too. I really like this Schwartzbier...wish they carried it here in Casper.

Bottom line: Like I said, this is a very drinkable and tasty Schwarzbier. I'll have to pick up some more on my next trip to Ft Collins! Recommended!

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

Pours very smooth with very little head, even when poured right down the middle of the bottle. Color is a dark reddish brown.

The smell was intriguing, with a strong roasted smell of something that I couldn't quite pinpoint, though I am guessing it is the grains.

The taste gives a good variety of flavors, from a coffee-ish taste, to a sweeter taste, and a mild nutty finish.

The beer tingles the palette with a little bit of carbonation. The texture of the beer fits the style well.

The overall drinking experience was quite good and I really enjoyed the fact that as the beer warms and you sip it slowly, you can fully appreciate all the flavors that this beer has to offer.

great aromas of hay and mocha. Light on the tongue, but still a persistent and lingering handful of malty goodness.

This beer is a great American version of the style. I'm very much looking forward to the Oldsmar Tap House launch of Fort Collins this weekend.
