Acquired via trade from Wasatch so a big "Thank You" goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep reddish brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of smoked malts, caramel, dark fruit with a touch of hops.

T: The taste is smoky and malty with sweet flavors of chocolate, dark fruit and caramel up front. There's a touch of smoked meat in the background but it's not overdone like I've experienced in other beers. There's a mild hops presence that bring some balance. The after-taste is slightly smoky and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Flavorful, goes down easily, not too filling, deceptively strong kick, good representation of style, I'm not that big of a fan of the smoked beers but this one is as good as I've had from that type. Overall, it seems to be more of a sipper than a pounder.

Tried this one on draft at the brewery.. Overall, I thought it was pretty tasty -- really wish they had noted that smoked malts were used in this one. The smoke was subtle, but certainly there. Not a fan of smoky beers myself, but this actually worked pretty well for me.

A brilliantly clear dark amber hue. Medium sized foamy head, light mocha coloring. More head than expected at 10+ ABV. Smell is interesting; starts off rather smokey, almost reminiscent of a rauchbier. A toasty sweetness from the large amounts of malt used. A touch of isopropal alcohol fumes, maybe some mildly tart charries. As far as taste, I was expecting just a bit more. Its definitely a doppelbock; huge upfront waves of maltiness. Sweetness, some woody flavors, cookie-like characteristics. The beer leaves the palette on a subdued hop bitterness and a lingering brandy note. Alcohol dryness, too. Flavors seem subdued, static, kind of shallow. Has a certain less-than-favorable characteristic throughout, maybe its too much sweetness. Medium-light body, not too heavy and thick.

Hrmmm. Not bad, by any means. Malty, sweet and warming, but seems too fresh, raw and less complex. The opposite of a Celebrator, far too light for a Samichlaus clone. A sort of middling doppel. Decent, but underwhelming.

Pours an amber brown color with a slight head that quickly recedes. Some light lacing.
Aroma is overwhelmingly molasses to the point that I can't get much of anything else.
Molasses seems even stronger in the taste. This makes the beer way too sweet tasting in my opinion.
I just can't get past the overly sweet, one-note molasses smell and taste here. It doesn't really resemble the style to me.

22 oz bottle poured into a wine glass.
A: Brilliant dark chestnut with a ½” off-white to tan head that disappears to nothing.
S: Spice and kettle sugars, light grains, fresh bread.
T: Very rich and malty with spicy grain flavors, bread, kettle sugars, and grain.
F: Very clean and smooth, medium full body, medium low carbonation, warming.
O: Fairly sweet but just short of cloying, slightly hot, but pleasant to drink.

Poured into a balloon glass.

Look: Dark brown body with a ruby hue on it. Cream colored head that leaves a collar of bubbles after receding. Light lacing.

Aroma: Bready with caramel notes, dark fruits, raisins, figs.

Taste: Very sweet malts with dried fruits coming in such as raisins, figs, a lot of bready qualities. A bit boozy as expected for the ABV.

Mouthfeel: Fairly clean for 10.2% ABV but not without some syrupy qualities.

Overall: A syrupy sweet sipper with lots of bready and fruity flavors.

Enjoyed form a 22 oz bomber in a pint glass. This FINE dopple pours a muddled cloudy brownish amber with a tight beaded foam layer that slowly dissipates to a thin layer and thick ring with sudsy lacing. Nose of fresh bread crust, chocolate malts, dark cherries, heavy date aromas, and strong sweet malts. Flavors of brown sugar and mild chocolate malts to the front and sides dominate and then gives way to a fresh bready malt flavor with a dark pie cherry aftertaste that is neither sour nor unpleasant. Back has notes of tobacco, strong alcohol warmth, and yellow raisins. Alcohol is well hidden for such a beast of a brew.

This is the most complex dopplebock I have had to date. As it warms I could pick out more and more flavors. EXCELLENT. A new FAV.

Thick syrupy mouth feel and moderate carbonation makes this one a sure winner. One of the style I have ever had. FANTASTIC. Will purchase more when available.

Cheers!

No idea how old this is, as I got it on clearance from a local beer store.

Incredible malt aroma, with deeply nutty, toasted malt meeting caramel and molasses sweetness. Fairly complex, and very rich.

Flavor is less impressive. Initially, there's a touch of sour character, and the caramel and brown sugar flavors are a bit cloying. Nutty notes and a touch of chocolate chime in to add intrigue. Notes of raisins surface as it warms.

For 2 bucks a bomber, an awesome beer. The slight sourness and lacking mid palate profile detract significantly.
