Enjoyed in a snifter glass

A: pours a clear light amber color with a nice amount of carbonation bubbles and a finger of frothy cream colored head that dissipates rather rapidly and leaves a nice amount of lacing 4
S: slight scent of vanilla and spices, definitely has a solid spice note and slight alcohol bite 4
T: begins with a solid woody note similar to scotch, kicks in with a bit of vanilla in the middle 4.5
M: thick, medium carbonation tingle, leaves the mouth feeling thick and sticky 4
O: really drinks nicely, not harsh at all, nice taste notes 4

22 oz brown bottle

Fort Collins Wheat Wine filled my snifter with a cloudy dark amber body and formed a 1- 1/2 - finger tan bubbly head that dissipated quickly to a ring of bubbly foam and hit and miss lacing. The nose was wheat dominated with some caramel aromas. The flavor is like the nose. The caramel malt is dominant with fruit notes and a light balancing bitterness and pleasant alcohol warming at the finish. Mouth feel is light medium, a little prickly carbonation, and little sticky.

Fort Collins Wheat Wine is a wheat wine that reminds me of a lighter English Barley wine - not being a hop head I like that. The ale is an easy drinker for the style. Goes well with BBQ potato chips.

Appearance: a deep brown. with some reddish hues. mostly clear but trending towards some opaqueness. about a finger or so of tannish head that slowly fades but doesn't leave much behind.

Smell: nutty, caramel sweetness, dark fruits, some alcohol. the smell is very sweet. the caramel, fruits and nuts combine in a weird way that is slightly off putting. its also slightly weaker so you really have to get in on it to figure things out

Taste: very close to the nose. opens up with fruit but not quite as dark as the nose. some citrus along with plums. followed by a nuttiness with a slight wheat backbone coming in. alcohol makes it self present in the back end. I think this beer could cut back a bit on the complexity and build more on the wheat back bone. the complexity gets too muddled up

Mouthfeel: definitely wheat in the feel. not too heavy. slightly warm from the alcohol

Overall: Not overly impressed with this one. it has some very good qualities but i think it bit off more than it can chew

11oz pour at Taco Mac (Woodstock, GA). 5.00. Served in a goblet.

Arrives deep chestnut red all the way up to the edges of the goblet with a small ring of off white bubbles. Nothing I'd call lacing.

Sweet slightly phenolic nose. Not much going on.

Taste is sweet and fruity with some big booze right out of the gates. Slight hops, biscuit and hay. The alcohol is pretty up front the whole time but never overly distracting. A nice mix overall.

Creamy medium feel with light carbonation. Nice sweet finish with some residual alcohol.

Hands down the best best brew I've had from Ft Collins and a tasty wheatwine in its own right. A sweet fruity boozy treat that I think would only get better over time.

A solid clear copper color with a fair off-white ring on top and reasonable signs of lacing. The aroma brings on a beautiful pine-malt blend with caramel popcorn sweetness. Very nice. The flavor delivers nutty evergreen and caramel malt with a general hemp-like overtone. Grainy and a hint of booziness that doesn't interfere at all. Carbonation is moderate, body is pretty close to full and the feel is pretty heavy and viscous, but "liquid". A very tasty brew and easily recommended!

A - Dark copper color. Off-white, foamy, light, bubbly, soapy head that foams up quick and then disappears quick. Leaves only slight traces of lace.

S - Sweet caramel along with a good amount of sweet fruit (especially cherries). Good amount of alcohol with a brandy-ish flavor.

T - Like the nose, the dominant flavors are caramel, alcohol and fruit (cherry, apricot, some stone fruits). Touch of brown sugar sweetness and a breadiness. Sticky, sweet, and alcoholic.

M - Light and slightly thin body. Average carbonation with a slight stickiness.

D - Flavors don't quite meld well together. Sweet and alcoholic flavors are a bit much making this a definite sipper.

Notes: I wasn't blown away by this beer. Flavors fell flat for me and didn't inspire me to drink more. Not exactly cloying, but sweet, sticky, and alcoholic. I would recommend treating this like a brandy and have someone (or someones) to share this with for a dessert/nightcap/etc.

Pours a vibrant red colour, slight amber tinge. Head is white, quite sparse lacing with just a cloud on the top. Lace is unimpressive. Colour's nice, but beer is not quite so impressive in general.

Smell is lovely, malty and nutty, with a touch of chestnut, macadamia and honey, with some mild fresh hop notes - just some earthy citrus character to cut off the sweetness. Still, very sweet and nutty, desserty even. Clean enough.

Taste retains those sweet, nutty characters, but not to their full potential. Quite malty/sweet but gets mildly stale towards the end, with the flavour of old nuts coming through, slightly diminished. Hints of apricot, chestnut and maybe some rye spice in there but it's ultimately a little bit naff, like it doesn't quite fulfill its big potential. Decent flavours but a bit subdued.

Bit thin on the feel, but a nice kind of brassy presence late - still, quite a thin body overall.

A typical kind of US beer - some nice flavours but not quite big and impressive and idiosyncratic enough. Almost as if the flavours are thrown together without them quite knowing what to do with them.
