750ml brown bottle with no freshness date.

Bright copper hued brew, decent enough lacing to keep a beery appearance. Tart exotic berries, faint honey, spicy alcohol, birch, wild herbs, & some breadiness are all in the nose. Mild crispness, medium body, dry character throughout, fresh herbs, tart berries, estery, mild bitterness, hint of birch, earthy, mineral, faint peppery tone, & alcohol. Dry finish.

Hand it to Dogfish Head to go far out on the craft beer limb with another Ancient Ale and this one I'd love to see more of.

Amber hued with good clarity. A quarter inch head of off white foam covers the majority of the beer. Brussels lacing. Aroma of cranberries and faint lingonberries. The body is surprisingly light but a bit sticky. The flavor is slightly tart cranberries balanced with a bit of sweet honey. You can also sense a light malt base

Poured into shaker pint; slightly reddish amber color, clear with lots of carbonation and a thick fluffy off-white head that faded after a bit into a ring of bubbles.
Smell is metallic malt, with lots of fragrant berry scents, tart and sweet. Very herbal and fresh.
Taste is tart cranberry, acidic malt with some other sour characteristics, and some herbal vegetal crispness from hops or other additions.
Mouthfeel is low-carbonation (surprising for how it looks, and the head), light-bodied and smooth.
Overall, this is an interesting entry in the ancient ale series. Instead of the super-sweet boozy mead-wine-beer hybrids like Sah'tea, Jaihu and the like, this is a relatively crisp and tart brew that is very interesting.
