A- Pours a dark black hue with slight red tint. The head starts out at about 1 finger of milk chocolate color then dissipates quickly to a thin lacing.
S - caramel malt, raisins, burnt maple with minimally discernable hops (possibly non-existent hop aroma).
T - Roasted chocolate and coffee malt flavors with raisin, slight plum affect. The flavor profile opens up a bit as the beer warms and I get nutty something (maybe the chicory?). The roasted bitter (but not unpleasant) "mexican coffee" advertised on the bottle is the main event.
M - This is a big beer in a medium body. On the lighter side of Dogfish's alcohol spectrum but not wimpy as far as body. Somewhat lighter feeling than a standard stout.
O - An above average beer for sure, but not in my top 3 favorites from this brewer. It seems benign from a brewer who puts out so many other complex concoctions. I'm not opposed to having it again, just wouldn't go out of my way to find it. A good solid, but average stout.
