Look: Deep brown almost black with faint ruby hues and a creamy coffee color thick billowing bubbly head. Very Appetizing
Smell: Predominantly: coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and smoked jerky generated by the smoked malt and chicory accompanied by cherries, oak and raisins. Wonderfully fragrant
Taste: Smoked meat at the forefront, followed by cherries, raisins, vanilla, and chocolate with oak and coffee following on the back of the tongue. Overall the flavor is good but at the same time its a bit underwhelming. Not bad but I expected more.
Mouthfeel: Minimal carbonation and far too watery. This one felt way too much like a schwarzbier, which isn't good for a stout. There's room for improvement with the texture and fullness here.
Drinkability: Relatively easy to drink, nothing really making it hard to swallow. But, there isn't anything making it easier to drink either.
All in all there's a lot of room for improvement with this brew, it looks and smells quite appetizing. But when it comes down to flavor and feeling there are a few more steps that need to be climbed. Honestly it just needs to be a tad bit stronger in flavor and thicker in feeling. But, all in all its not a bad brew, just one still in the making.
