This beer poured a dark brown, almost black color, with a half finger high light brown head. The initial smell of the beer was that of coffee beans, light chocolate, malts and possibly the chicory. The initial taste is that of a watery coffee bean. This progressed to a lightly roasted chocolate and espresso bean flavor. The beer finishes with a roasted coffee bean flavor that lingers. The brew has a medium body with light to medium carbonation.
Overall, this is an interesting beer. I have never tried chicory root, but I have to say this beer has a unique taste, most likely because of the chicory. The beer is straight up coffee flavors, so if you don't like those flavors, steer clear. The watery taste is my primary negative and that wimpy head.
