I'm a huge fan of DFH beers, and the Chicory Stout is no exception.
Pours a deep dark brown with a substantial tannish-beige head. Smells of roasted coffee, burnt caramel and maybe a hint of vanilla. Surprised at the slightly smoky bitterness, as I expected something a bit sweeter, but it doesn't disappoint, though I can see where it might be a bit too bitter for some. Mouthfeel is surprisingly crisp, not as creamy as some stouts, and definitely finishes with a dry, somewhat peppery bite.
Oddly enough I enjoyed mine with a sandwich made of leftover holiday prime rib, followed by a shortbread wafer and it went equally well with both. Go figure.
