Presentation: 12 oz brown long neck bottle with “Packaged In” date on the side of the label.
Appearance: A shade or two lighter than pitch black. Pale tan lace that is sticky and densely rocky.
Smell: Dark breadiness, blend of chicory and coffee in the nose as well as some unsweetened dark chocolate. Malt sweet slathered with a conglomeration of roasted grains and a hint of charcoal.
Taste: Roasted grain and humbly astringent coffee flavours upfront. Medium to full bodied, smooth and crisp with a slight buttery mouth feel. Malty sweet with mild molasses, sweet coffee and dark chocolate on the tongue. Astringent flavours grow a bit and are a little bothersome, hops are vague and leave a bitterness that is a bit oily and joins up with the roasted flavours well. Touch of smoky charcoal flavour middle to end, a touch of buttery diacetyl makes its way to the taste bud to further confuse the palate.
Notes: An ok coffee stout, some flavours just don’t seem to mesh well together. Astringencies get in the way and become a nuisance to drink.
