Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass.
A – Pours a clear dark brown with amber highlights. Minimal fizzy white head with little retention. Small amounts of patchy lacing.
S – Somewhat bizarre aroma of grapes, raisin, Belgian yeasts, and fusel alcohols.
T – Sweet brown sugar and roasted grains upfront, with esters of white grape, raisin, prune, and molasses. Can taste a bit of earthy hops in the finish. The whole mix has sort of a port wine character. Also finishes with a little metallic solvent taste. Overall taste is not bad, aftertaste aside. Alcohol present in the finish as it warms.
M – Very low carbonation. Thin bodied. Slightly syrupy; could probably benefit from a little more carbonation.
O – Kind of a strange blend. None of the individual flavors are bad, and I would hesitate to call it “unbalanced”, but in my opinion the flavors presented didn’t come together very well. A little bit of a mess, and the metallic aftertaste became a little distracting over time. I can see where they were going with this, but ultimately I think it misses the mark a little. Probably wouldn’t buy again.
