Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Bottled on 10/31/2013.
Appearance: Pours a fairly hazy copper golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Huge four finger off white head that actually holds up fairly well. Leaves a lot of clingy lacing around the glass.
Smell: A fruity and fairly sweet hop forward aroma with earthy hints, citrus, and sweet syrup. Hoppy upfront with earthy hints of grass and some spicy pine. Zesty citrus hop presence with hints of orange peel, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, and slight apricot. Sweet bready malts with hints of caramel, toffee, biscuit, toast, and yeast. The sweet scent of maple syrup is noticeable. A very solid aroma.
Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a zesty, fruity, and fairly earthy IPA taste with a nice kick of sweet syrup. Mix of hops upfront with earthy notes of grass and spicy pine. Juicy citrus hop presence with notes of orange rind, lemon zest, pineapple, grapefruit, mango, and some apricot. Sweet and toasty malt presence with notes of caramel, toffee, yeast, biscuit, and toast. Sweet notes of the added maple syrup come through as well. A big and nicely balanced taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, creamy, and somewhat oily and syrupy. Finishes somewhat dry. Nicely smooth.
Overall: A pretty good take on a IPA. Good citrus hop presence with a solid balance of sweetness from the added maple syrup. Good to have Dogfish Head back at the MN/WIS border.

Pours a cloudy brownish straw color with two fingers of head that enjoyed a lengthy period of retention and left intricate lace behind. The nose is slightly citrusy. The flavor profile is also citrusy with some hops and a slight trace of maple sweetness on the finish.
I really like DFH 60 and I love DFH 90 – I guess that you can’t simply meet in between.
