Tasted from a 12 oz bottle poured into a white wine glass. Beer was served chilled.

Appearance: Light orange/amber in color. Minimal head that dissappates almost instantly save for a slight film at the liquid's surface.

Smell: Honey and fruit (grape and banana) smells dominate the aroma. Hints of spice in the background, occasional note of alcohol

Taste: I was struck by the spiciness at first, most likely a result of the high ABV (9%). Not as sweet as I was expecting given honey and muscat grapes as ingredients. You can definitely taste the alcohol here, which I didn't mind. The aftertaste cycles through the grain, honey, and muscat flavors.

Mouthfeel: It has an oily mouthfeel - golden, if you will. Quite interesting and not unpleasant in the least.

Drinkability: Here's where I begin to have problems with this beer, as evidenced my my mark. I wouldn't recommend drinking either the 12 oz or 750 ml bottle all by yourself (at least not in a hurry). Share a bottle with friends and/or loved ones.

Other comments: Not certain what temperature to serve this at. Muscat wines are generally served bone cold, beer and mead less so. I'd recommend chilling it to almost freezing and see how the taste develops as it warms for kicks. Another interesting and genre bending/breaking brew from Dogfish Head.

12 oz bottle was poured into a tulip. Bottle date of 6/28/13.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale orange with good clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Honey sweetness, spice, alcohol, grapes, caramel, and some bready notes.

Taste: Sweet from the honey, spice, warm alcohol, safron, caramel, and toasted malts.

Mouthfeel: The sweetness seems to make this beer dry. Smooth, medium carbonation, medium to full bodied, and a little booze.

Overall: For being a year old, this beer held up well and tasted good.

I really love this one! It is complex but simple enough to get the major notes of what the beer is going for. I get strong notes of honey and spice which lead into a dry, herbal finish. Its fresh and round with a great balance! I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys drinking chardonnay!
