Very excited to try this one. I was told it would be interesting at the store when I selected it.
I have a 12 oz bottle and have poured it into a glass goblet I recently picked up. The color is a pale, clear orange. Even some shades of pink like a blush wine. The aroma is also similar to a blush wine. Definite smell of alcohol present. Reminds me of college days buying box wines. The head was a challenge to try and build, it came up bright white and dissipated very quickly.
The carbonation is Very low and the beer tastes similar to a wine probably the grapes in the brew. Strong alcohol warming on the swallow is present. This beer is very winey in all characteristics. Very little if any hop or malt flavors present. Dominated by the off sweetness provided by the grapes. This reminds me of the post about "when is beer not beer anymore" It is exactly this kind of experimental fringe brew that I love to have around in the world of brewing. In my opinion DFH is the best US brewery pushing beer thresholds right now, and I really dig almost all of their beers.
Back to the beer. The bottle says 9% and it is right there smacking you inthe face. No sneaky drunkeness here. The brew is rather thin and very easily drinkable, if you dont mind sweet liquids.
The man at the beer store was correct, this is a rather interesting brew. If you are expecting a typical malty or hoppy beer this is not for you. But if you enjoy trying every beer you can get your hands on grab one of these. Just try one though, it is very possible that you wont like this one.

Considering the price I paid I was hoping for a beverage with "The Midas Touch". Instead I got something that was mediocre at best. Pours out a hazy yellow with a minimal head and very little retention. The smell actually reminded me of adjuncts, not malt or hops. The taste was even on the "hot" side, particularly after the beer warmed a bit and the mouth feel average at best with poor carbonation. Overall it was OK, but just marginally. I am sorry I bought a 4 pack and will be going back to 90 Minute IPA if I want something from DFH. This is not a beer that is worth 3+ bucks a bottle at retail.

Smells of white grapes and malt with a small amount of saffron to follow. Tasting it the grape is the strongest with hints of honey and saffron. The malt does come through after a few sips. After a while I feel as I have been drinking white wine as well. The finish is crisp and has a aftertaste of grapes. I would buy again.

Served from an ice cold bottle into a glass.

Appearance: Golden yellow with lots of carbonation bubbles. I gave it an aggressive pour and got no head. Bad beer bad, just joking.

Smell: Fresh, with citrus notes.

Taste; Again fresh with a hops bite and slightly bitter, very crisp and refreshing.

Mouth feel: Not thick, very light and refreshing, serve cold. Has a bit from the carbonation.

Overall: I love Dog fish Head and this brew is from the ancient Ale series my first one and i am very excited to try them all. i would recommend this brew and Dog fish head brewery, and since they were just on a recent Brew Dogs episode I am sure they are going to gain a lot more popularity. well done my friends.
