12 oz bottle poured into an IPA glass. Bottled on 9/03. Consumed on 9/28.
A - Reddish amber hue. Gentle pour yielded no head with light foam around edges of glass. Distinct lines of carbonation. Almost no lacing as liquid recedes.
S - Very fragrant. Hints of molasses, dried apricot, and peaches. Alcohol hints present.
T - Interesting complexity of flavors. Has a slight tartness composed of pineapple and kiwi. Has a sweetness composed of vanilla (oak aged), molasses, maple syrup, brown sugar and anise. Also, has a cinnamon pepper aspect and sweet alcohol notes. The alcohol is not hidden, but rather has a warming feel. Also, has a well balanced malt backbone.
M- Full bodied with luxurious foaming in the mouth. Tingly on tongue. Even after carbonation dissipates if drunk slowly, does not take on a syrupy texture.
O - In a blind taste test, I could tell this was a DFH product, but so much better that 60/75/90/120 Minute IPA's. This is a beer to drink slowly and savor. I held off trying this beer since I am more of a West Coast IPA fan and also have been lukewarm on other DFH products, but this is a must try.
