A - Deep amber in color with some red in there as well. Minimal carbonation settles on top & is not long for the world. There is a bit of gritty lacing.
S - Earthy notes abound; piney hops predominate. Soothingly subdued hints oak in the nose with some booziness present.
T - Piney hop bite up front; bready malts occasionally poke through. There is a spot of vanilla in there as well. Alcohol is well-hidden.
M - Gritty hop resin is present but not overbearing & lingers on the tongue. Otherwise this is a very smooth beer. Carbonation seems appropriate to me.
D - This is one heck of a beer, with a weight & intensity not altogether apparent until nearly half gone. I've been a fan of DFH for years. Burton Baton is one of their better ones, in my opinion. Very tasty & complex, I would have few reservations recommending this beer. My only gripe is that, while I would like to drink them all night, one at a time is sufficient for me.
