American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
This oak-aged gentle giant has been gaining popularity over the past few years and is now available year-round.

For Burton Baton, we brew two "threads," or batches, of beer: an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA.

After fementating the beers separately in our stainless tanks, they're transferred and blended together in one of our large oak tanks. Burton Baton sits on the wood for about a month.

When enjoying the Burton Baton, you'll find an awesome blend of the citrus notes from Northwestern hops melding with woody, vanilla notes from the oak. The wood also tends to mellow the 10% ABV of Burton, so tread cautiously!

One of the first glasses poured on Lucky Cat night at the ole' Grey Lodge.

I'd say a dark rusty copper is the colour of this enigmatic brew. There is also a nice head of slightly off-white tan. This brew also left excellent lacing in my glass as well. The aromas are all floral, spicy hops, oak notes, a distinctive spicy fruitiness, and more. The taste is somewhat sweet up front with a very rounded mouthfeel and some slightly oaky hints as well. The oak hints are not very wood-like, but they do lend a distintively spicy level of complexion to the hoppiness of this beer. The mouthfeel is very well rounded, and truly cask-like in composition, and the drinkablity remains extremely high for a 10%abv, 80ibu brew from the folks at DFH. Wow, this one was really worth the wait. Another extraordinary creation by DFH. Excellent job guys!

Pours a clear amber with a great fluffy 2 finger white head that lasts. Aroma is a little floral, with some sweetness and a orange brulee scent. Its as if someone took a torch to an orange rind and caramelized the oils. Taste has the same citrus sweetness with a bit of citrus oil bitterness. There is just a slight woody note. Its if the 90 minute and the wood aged parts are fighting for the title. There is also a taste there that i cant find, but it is so deep and good maybe a bit of lemon tartness or is it more floral, or a combination? There is a nice bit of sweetness to counter act the hops. Mouthfeel has a touch of sticky sweet hop notes like a natural citrus candy. Well carbonated and very smooth. This is tip top drinkable. Not quite as great as the straight 90 minute in my mind as something is just a little different and less. Overall however this is a great beer. I hope they make more of this, maybe the price will drop then.

Wow. Amazing.

A: Foggy amber with hints of yellow green and a minimal head. Lacing is almost non-existent but no worries shes a beauty, would it make a difference in the bed if your wife had stockings on? Probably not. Especially if she was gorgeous.

S: Ohh yeeeaaa.... Malt and hops immediately all masked by a pristine campfire aroma. Almost as if you were just putting the fire out with the water from the nearby spout. Did I mention malt and hops? You know, real malt and hops.

T: Yes! If you could imagine taking DFHs 90 Minute IPA and aging it to perfection on a cask of luxurious burnt oak giving you any sort of excitement, this is exactly that. Fruity caramel goodness, hops and wood, nothing more, nothing less, straight up, but seems to be far more complex. A pinch of yeast but all things compliment each other working together to please my needs.

M: Creamy, thick, mellow and smooth with just a bite or maybe a nibble in that case of bitterness to round things off. Carbonation is perfect and almost unnoticeable which means its substantial, not annoying. Slowly moves down the throat and lingers a bit, but lingers like a good dog.

D: I have to slow down, its incredible how easy you can believe this is a 6% beer. Caught up very quickly, the only reason its a 4.5 is because before too long I would be forced to stop drinking it. GREAT

Overall: If you are into wood aged beers, love IPAs, this is the beer for you. Exactly what I expected, perfect. Also, if you have had DFHs 90 Minute IPA, imagine that with a complimenting wood swing, just glorious. Grab a four and make your palate happy!

Poured from a 12oz which was bottled 7-20-11 into a dogfish goblet.

Appearance: a dark golden hazy brew. well carbonated and a fingers worth of thin white head with artistic looking head.

Smell: a woody vanilla floral IPA. the hops come through with a pine smell. hint of bourbon comes to me but I don't know if that's my mind playing tricks on me because I know its oak aged.

Tastes: phenomenal IPA. I have to say it is bitterly sweet with a creamy vanilla taste. the woody smoke taste blends great with the 90 min. that DFH blended together. It does kind of have a floral finish which was well carbonated.

Mouthfeel: for the 10% they packed into this IPA it sure is smooth. the frothy creamy feeling left in my mouth lingered there until the next sip until the last.

Overall: I love this ale. I wish it wasn't a rotating release and so limited. I have trouble getting my hands on it when in season and it almost seems like the distributers pick and choose what regions get it and it never seems to make it around me in abundance. Which I find unfortunate and hope changes.
