12oz 2010 poured into a 16oz snifter.
Golden, muted brown. Bright gold when shown through light. 2 fingers of head, though it dissipates quickly, with spotty lacing.
Vanilla dominates, though there is a very nice pepper end. You get a great peat finish that is unexpected, but very well done. Between the two, maple and honey come into play, mellow, though present. Alcohol is strong in the background, but with the pepper, there is a slight balance.
Vanilla, maple and honey dominate the palate at first, with a slight pepper finish. But as the beer warms, the peat barley comes to dominate giving a very dominating pepper body. Alcohol is present, but balanced enough to not really become a problem. In the finish is a very sweet, near juice like flavor. Perhaps the berries coming into play?
A bit watery in the mouth. Would have liked a bit more clinginess with the oak aging, but well done. Alcohol is well hidden, but definately a sipper. One and done with this baby.
Another DFH attempt from times past. Well done, balanced and very drinkable, though when compared to others, it can be described as good, but not exceptional. Still a great brewery for conversion, it is now more of a go to beer when seeking out something to try and break someone out of the BMC mold.

Pours a transparent dark rust orange color with a thin head that dissipates immediately.
Smells of maple, vanilla, and an accompanying boozy burn.
Strong oak flavor with hints of vanilla, maple, and a warm booze finish.
Mouthfeel is lush and velvety, goes down very smooth.
Overall, a very good warmer, but I would love to see what a year or two does to this!
