Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
A – Pours crystal clear amber, with minimal head even after an aggressive pour. Lacing is completely non-existent.
S – Whoa. This is one STRONG smelling beer. First whiff had me almost recoiling from the glass! Primarily a strong fusel alcohol smell (not entirely unpleasant) but also catching a lot of oak and brown sugar. Peaty.
T – Extremely smoky and peaty, with additional hints of oak, molasses, maple syrup and pine. Finishes with a definite Scotch whisky character. 11% abv very well hidden, although a slight warming effect is noted toward the end. Dark fruits such as black cherry and plum come out as it warms. Pretty complex overall.
M – Minimal carbonation (almost flat) and the overall feel could be described as “thin”. Slightly syrupy finish. I would say a bit more carbonation may have benefited this one.
O – Should probably be marketed as a scotch ale. An interesting brew, but not something I would rush out to buy again. Definitely a sipper. Would be nice on an icy cold night in front of a fire. Might purchase again if in the mood for a “whisky inspired” beer, as this probably does a better job at it than several beers that make the claim even though this one doesn’t even advertise itself as such.

Pours a transparent dark rust orange color with a thin head that dissipates immediately.
Smells of maple, vanilla, and an accompanying boozy burn.
Strong oak flavor with hints of vanilla, maple, and a warm booze finish.
Mouthfeel is lush and velvety, goes down very smooth.
Overall, a very good warmer, but I would love to see what a year or two does to this!
