American Double / Imperial IPA |  9.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute IPA "perhaps the best IPA in America." An imperial IPA best savored from a snifter, 90 Minute has a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate.

90 Minute IPA was the first beer we continuously hopped, allowing for a pungent -- but not crushing -- hop flavor.

The 2nd installment of my Dogfish Head experience, I decided to partake in one of the highly regarded IPAs. And what a treat it was!

The 90 min IPA pours as a complex amber and gold with a strong off-white head and significant lacing throughout.

The smell is prototypical Imperial IPA; pleasant and flowery sweet, but it lacked the strength and punch that elite IPAs in its class have consistently shown.

The taste was where this really showed its merit. Highly hopped by unbelievably drinkable. A real treat! Not quite as complex as some others, but a very good, very smooth brew that permeates the taste buds with great bitterness and a strong aftertaste.

Appearance: Poured from a bottle into a snifter. About a finger of white, foamy head. A copper color, not very transparent. A lot of little bubbles floating up to the top. Nice lacing around the glass.

Smell: Smells wonderful! Some nice citrus, hop, malt, not overpowering with the hops. I really love the smell of this.

Taste: Awesome! There's a little bit of sweetness to it. Tastes incredibly balanced between the malt and hops. Citrus, specifically orange.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with some carbonation, easy drinking imperial IPA.

Overall: My first IPA to review and immediately one of my new favorites!

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Bottled on 5/30/14. Tasted on 7/28/14

Appearance: Half-inch soapy head, nearly pure-white. The color is a transparent, golden-copper. Lacing initially holds a very nice level of retention, but fades fairly quickly. Still have some lace lingering towards the top of the glass after a long drink-down, though.

Smell: Sweet hop aroma followed by some caramel maltiness and hints of alcohol.

Taste: Hops hit you from the onset and stay with you until the end. It's a puckering bitterness. Alcohol warms your throat and nose towards the end. After taste is much more fruity than I would have expected.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth but thick with moderate to low carbonation. Dries the mouth.

Overall: A very solid Imperial IPA that I would recommend to any hop-head. Not particularly my favorite flavor profile for an Imperial IPA, however, I can still appreciated the quality. Would like to try on-tap, would buy a four-pack if I could share some with friends or family. I would give it 90-93 overall.
