Poured from 12-ounce bottle into Otter Creek Oktoberfest pint glass:
A: Poured a clean, rusted amber-range with a mellow carbonation and a nice creamy head of ivory foam.
S: Smells sweet and spicy, with fruity notes of orange and lemon added to the cloven floral aroma.
T: Prickly hops are immediate, followed by a balancing rush of sweet barley malt, before finishing with a firey hop attack loaded with oily pine resin, bittersweet grapefruit and estery alcohol.
M: A little on the sweet and clingy side without being so much that it's heavy and cumbersome to get down.
D: Two or three of these would more than satisfy a hopheads needs. Your palate might be shot on other brews afterwards, but this is so drinkable, likelable and fulfilling, you won;t have to go anywhere else.
This is truly a king amongst the American Double/Imperial IPA market, which Dogfish Head has really spearheaded and put their fingerprints on. A great DIPA indeed, and as they say down in Milton Head: "Feel the burn ... that's the sickness AND the cure!"
