This beer holds a special place in my heart as the drink that turned me on to just how good beer could be. I was in Denver, looking for a bottle of wine, and spotted the Dogfish selection. Recalling an unqualified recommendation I'd read online, I picked up a four pack. A year later, my love affair with micro-brews in general and the Dogfish Head Brewery in particular continues. Anytime I have this beer it brings back memories of that first wonderful glass.
Poured from a bottle into my Chimay goblet -- why not, I figured. First impression of this light amber colored beer is the bubbles; there are tons. They subside after a few minutes, but still provide enough bubbliciousness (sp?) to keep the head from disappearing. Lacing is spotty.
Smells like hops. Y'know, that grapefruit and slightly piney, grassy, sweet scent. This beer makes no attempt to hide what you're about to taste. Hops and lots of 'em.
Taste? Great! DFH 90 minute is an amazingly hoppy, smooth and carbonated beer. There's an initial hops rush, and a tingly, bubbly effervescence (I love using that word), followed by a light malt taste that fills the mouth. Finishes dry and warm, that's the 9% saying hello.
Mouthfeel is bubbly, smooth, coating, and dry. Very smooth in fact, this one almost jumps down your throat.
Drinkable? 9% aside, yes. I mean, it's not a "session" beer, but neither is so filling as to preclude you having another.
Bottom line, this is a hoppy, smooth beer and a fantastic Double IPA. Dogfish Head again shows why they're one of the top micros in the US.
I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like this beer. Drink if possible.

Poured from a bottle into a mason jar at J&R Tacos in downtown Merced. Unfiltered honey-golden color, one-finger head with persistent lacing. Aroma is light roasted malt, and fragrant floral hops. Flavor, as you probably all know so well, is out-of-this-world amazing, malt, a little sweetness, a bit of apricots, a bit of pine, and delightful hops, well-balanced, and not at all mild. Mouthfeel is medium, not quite chewy. Overall this is the most amazing flabbergasting tasty IPA I have ever sampled. But what do I know? Try it, if you haven't!
