Pretty sure this is the 2010 vintage. I purchased this as part of my weekly mix and match and grassroots market in Jacksonville. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours inky black with only slight head and miniscule lacing due to the high alcohol content. The body is impenetrable. I held it up to a window in direct sunlight and the light wouldn't penetrate at all. It's so black, it was marked absent recently at night school. - Chris rock.
S: Smells of a ridiculous amount of malts with some alcohol components. Coffee/toffee notes on the nose.
T: Plenty of burnt malt dankness combined with motor oil, charcoal from the pits of hell and the crisped up souls of sinners past. It's burnt-sweet without a lot of bitter from hops, which makes it almost tolerable.
M: It's micro carbonated on the less assertive side, so not fizzy at all. It's full bodied and even though the alcohol level is barely negligable on the tongue, it'll kick your ass about five minutes after the last sip.
D: I can only rate this beer as average for one reason: It's highly dangerous. I'm ripped on one and munching on pumpkin seeds by the handful trying to come down. If you are in need of a full bodied beer to nurse for an hour or two, this might be the one. Otherwise, it's way too strong for mortal man. Be warned.

2011 vintage poured into a snifter
A- very dark with a porous tan 1/2 inch head
S- near perfect- chocolate, molasses, dark fruits dominate
T- taste matches the nose and so smooth...being a 2011 vintage definitely benefited the smoothness of this beer...still, this beer is nearly 20 percent and youd never guess...good achievement by DFH
M- thick and chewy...very very good, just what i like
O- i paid 15 dollars for this 3 year old vintage single bottle....should you pay that much for it? absolutely not...but IMO it is the best DFH beer brewed and one of the better stouts out there especially considering it isnt barrel aged and it is nearly 20 percent...quite an achievement!
