Okay, I have to start by saying that this is the second time that I've had this beer. The first was about a year ago when I wasn't nearly the beer drinker than I am now. I feel that I wasted that bottle... my pallet wasn't refined enough to really know what the hell I was drinking. I appologize to all...
Anyway...now to the beer...
Pours out like hot tar, except it's cold. Very very very black and beautiful. Tan head...a little lighter than I would have thought. There is that roasted barley scent that's just amazing. It really smells like you are sticking your head in a bag of roasted malt.
The first thing that you notice when you sip this beer is the amazingly thickness of it. It's crazy. It's amazing. It's great. There's a little sweetness, but a strong alcohol flavor in the middle of the swig. It reminds me of wiskey in the way it floods your nose. It's not a bad thing. Reminds me of a red wine.
I scored this beer low in drinkability because of the absurd ammount of alcohol in it. You just can't drink many of them. I got this bottle for a steal . $8 at Whole foods in NYC. Excellent. Anyway.. this is an amazing beer that I love and I love drinking it at home. It's not something that you should be downing at a bar.

2011 vintage poured into a snifter
A- very dark with a porous tan 1/2 inch head
S- near perfect- chocolate, molasses, dark fruits dominate
T- taste matches the nose and so smooth...being a 2011 vintage definitely benefited the smoothness of this beer...still, this beer is nearly 20 percent and youd never guess...good achievement by DFH
M- thick and chewy...very very good, just what i like
O- i paid 15 dollars for this 3 year old vintage single bottle....should you pay that much for it? absolutely not...but IMO it is the best DFH beer brewed and one of the better stouts out there especially considering it isnt barrel aged and it is nearly 20 percent...quite an achievement!
