2014 bottle poured into a snifter.
A: Deep black, impenetrable to light, essentially no head and the most minimal of lacing.
S: Incredible mixtures of dark fruit esters; raisins, plums, dates, dark cherry, even currant. Rich roasted malt and molasses. Alcohol is present but relatively well masked given the "absurd" amount of it.
T: Follows the nose, but much more bold on the booze. Like a good play, 3 acts. The attack is all dark fruits as above, taste is a little more heavy on raisin. The mid-palate is a very balanced roasted malt with caramel sweetness, and the finish is all booze released by a rising carbonation.
M: A little warm and boozy and surprisingly thin and porter-like for the absolute wealth of malt. The carbonation is perfect and aids in the release of lots of flavor.
O: Probably one of my favorite stouts, the yeast character is incredibly complex, (reminds me of a belgian quad) and it drinks like a jet fueled barley wine. Laying my second bottle down for a a year - or two; to mellow it out.

2011 vintage poured into a snifter
A- very dark with a porous tan 1/2 inch head
S- near perfect- chocolate, molasses, dark fruits dominate
T- taste matches the nose and so smooth...being a 2011 vintage definitely benefited the smoothness of this beer...still, this beer is nearly 20 percent and youd never guess...good achievement by DFH
M- thick and chewy...very very good, just what i like
O- i paid 15 dollars for this 3 year old vintage single bottle....should you pay that much for it? absolutely not...but IMO it is the best DFH beer brewed and one of the better stouts out there especially considering it isnt barrel aged and it is nearly 20 percent...quite an achievement!
