Smells of heavy alcohol, yeast, and a little banana/bubblegum
Pours an oily black with minimal milk chocolate head, no real retention into a snifter.
Chocolate malts and alcohol immediately apparent on the palate, with a heavy yeasty flavor. After a bit of warming, the alcohol and coffee and brown sugar flavors really start to come out.
This really is a once in a while beer. It's intense, and requires a lot of focus to appreciate properly. Of course, being an 18% beer, you could just hold your nose and chug it, but it really deserves better. It's a top level brew, and although at ten bucks a bottle it's a little steep, it is a pleasant treat to have with dessert . I'll definitely be buying a bottle or two this year to age for a bit.
