Had the opportunity to try this on draft. Arrived in a small snifter. About 1/2 inch of dark foam on top of a dark brown/black beer.
Smell is caramel, coffee, chocolate and molasses.
Taste is intense. Sweet toasty malt mixed with chocolate and caramel. Sweeter as it warms with less chocolate. Also more heat when warmer. This beer was fairly young so there was a noticeable alcohol finish. A couple years of aging calm it down nicely.
The mouthfeel is heavy with some carbonation. Almost creamy.
Overall this is a great beer. Flavors are complex and enjoyable.

2011 vintage poured into a snifter
A- very dark with a porous tan 1/2 inch head
S- near perfect- chocolate, molasses, dark fruits dominate
T- taste matches the nose and so smooth...being a 2011 vintage definitely benefited the smoothness of this beer...still, this beer is nearly 20 percent and youd never guess...good achievement by DFH
M- thick and chewy...very very good, just what i like
O- i paid 15 dollars for this 3 year old vintage single bottle....should you pay that much for it? absolutely not...but IMO it is the best DFH beer brewed and one of the better stouts out there especially considering it isnt barrel aged and it is nearly 20 percent...quite an achievement!
