Served a little warmer than I'd like, around 60°F, so I chilled the goblet first. No yeast sediment. June 22, 2010.
A: Enters the glass thick and viscous, black, with low carbonation and little head - less than a finger, which is surprising at this temperature. The cap is swirled with sandstone and mahogany. The color of this brew is what I imagine the center of a black hole to look like.
S: Phenolic and spicy notes are the first to drift from this abyss. Nutmeg and fruitcake aromas are followed by complex, raisinlike, tart aromas. Faintly intermixed are sweet pineapple, grapefruit, and candi sugar. Some roast barley and toffee, but the nose isn't nearly as roasty as the hue had suggested. Overall, World wide Stout smells great.
T: Hot. Extremely hot. Did I mention hot? Fusels dominate my palate. Drinking this beer is like eating spent uranium or licking lava. And Jesus, the alcohol content must be monstrous here...maybe 12%? The bottle doesn't indicate the strength on this one. (Edit: 18%. Again, wow.) Much like the base flavors in St. Arnold Divine Reserve 9, this one is hot and tangy, with a little burnt roastiness.
M: Sticky, thick, and chewy, but thinned out by the high ABV. About what you'd expect if you were to dissolve some caramelized sugar in vodka.
D: Low - in fact, as low as the drinkability can be for any beer that doesn't meet the drain. Certainly not bad enough to pour out, but just not drinkable.
