Served at room temp in a large fish-bowl shaped snifter.
A- Dark with a small head. nice carbonation for an imperial stout. the body appears a little thinner than some, not really sticking to the glass like I prefer in an imperial. However, the lacing is present and sticks nicely.
S- boozy with some charred malt. you get about as much smell as the carbonation will allow. not too much, but what is there smells good...plus my nose is slightly stuffy.
T- One thing about DFH, they copy no one. This is another unique offering by them. Has some good coffee tones, great dark malt flavor, with a warming alcohol burn. Has a flavor somewhat reminiscent of an Imperial Oatmeal stout. Crisp flavor, moderate hop bite. Very tasty brew with a great amount of complexity. I can't pick out all the flavors there. But there is chocolate, coffee, malt, hops, alcohol, and a little booze comes out on occasion.
M- Slightly oily, but not a lot. alcohol and bitter linger on the tongue, dancing long after the drink goes down. a very complex brew.
O- There are other stouts I like more, but I appreciate this stout's uniqueness. I am taking a trip next week to Virginia, and I will probably pick up some more if it is budget friendly enough. I would love to try this side by side with some of my favorites.
