Appearance: Poured from bottle into DFH snifter. Pours a thick, brownish-black with slightly lighter edges. Finger beige head.
Aroma: Huge roast malt notes up front, slight coffee and bitter chocolate, slight soy sauce character, rich boozy sweetness also present.
Taste: Roastiness gives way almost immediately to big, rich, boozy, port-like notes before continuing to malt sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, almost syrupy, light carbonation.
Overall: Amazingly smooth and drinkable for the claimed 18%. Nevertheless, the booziness overpowers the other flavors. I'm excited to see how this ages, as it seems that a few years might balance things out.
