Black, with tinges of ruby peeking in through the edges when held to the light. Rigorous pour produced a healthy, rocky tan head that faded fairly quickly, leaving a thin tan trace around the rim. Initial wisps of tan lace dissipated, then disappeared altogether. Smell is of plums, grapes, some chocolate, with a sweet, rum & coke aspect. Taste is also quite sweet, just-this-side-of cloying. Again rum & coke comes to mind, but also port wine, grape, caramelized dark fruits, roasted chocolate malts, and alcohol. All in all, though, the alcohol seems exceptionally well balanced for a brew of this intensity. An incredible experience, though I'll have to try a few more (not tonight, though!) to see if I prefer this over the 18%.
