Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial Stout |  18.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, World Wide Stout is dark, rich, roasty and complex. This Ageable Ale clocks in at 15-20% ABV and has a depth more in line with a fine port than with a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer.

Bottled 2011-Poured into snifter

A-Jet black with toffee 1/2" head that quickly subsides. thick lacing that quickly runs down the side of the glass

S-Chocolate, roasted malts, anise, caramel, burnt coffee, bourbon The roasted chocolate and anise seem to be the dominant aromas.

T-bold flavors that explode upon the first sip. Warm alcohol burn that you get with a bourbon. The anise stands out with some roasty dark chocolates and coffee. Chocolate/coffee flavors linger during the finish. Some woody notes

M-Full bodied with some alcohol burn slightly more carbonation than you would expect with a stout of the magnitude...as the beer warms the carb and alcohol mellow slightly

O-great tasting brew that drinks like an Imp Stout with far less alcohol. Good flavor profile and the tastes blend well

From a 355 ml bottle to a snifter. Reviewed from notes dated November 4, 2014.

A-A normal pour discloses a nearly black ale with about a finger of medium-brown head. The retention is pretty good for a beer with this type of ABV. The beer is mostly still from what I can see.

S-The aroma is big and pure with lots of chocolate, roasted barley, and some burnt sugar. It is creamy and smooth for such a big beer. I am enjoying the lack of barrel trickery or adjunct flavors here.

T-The taste, like the smell, is quite smooth. Flavors include heavy chocolate (milk and dark chocolate flavors, but more dark chocolate), burnt sugar, some vanilla creaminess, and some roasted barley. There is a bit of heat up front and some raisin fruit on the finish. The brew picks up some spice as it warms, but bitterness remains low.

M-The feel is quite smooth with lower levels of carbonation and a moderate-to-heavy weight.

O-What a great beer. This thing drinks dangerously easy for the ABV. I think that good, non-BA stouts get lost among the current barrel craze, but this beer proves that big, non-BA beers can be quite delicious.

Dark black with very little head. Due to the lack of head the beer left no lacing. My first impression from the nose is pure alcohol. I didn't percieve any roasted, malt, or Hop notes. I did pick up on a dark fruit and slight roasted aroma my second go around, which was subtle. It tastes similar to its nose, alcohol with a slight roasted flavor. I wasn't expecting anything. Extrodinary, but I was disappointed. The mouthfeel wasn't as thick as I would have expected. Overall, it's more enjoyable than 120, but I would not purchase again.
