2007 vintage shared by Mike at Bob's tasting. The oldest beer I've ever had.

Pours a deep dark almond brown, slightly murky but not opaque. No head or lacing.

Smells like raisins, chocolate, caramel, maple, with, somehow, even 7 years later, boozy aromas.

The taste is similar. I've never had this beer fresh, but I can still tell the aging has done this one well. Unbelievably smooth malty flavor, some great raisin flavor, some brown sugar and caramel, some other sweet flavors that remind me of maple. A bit leathery, too. In the taste, the alcohol has abated a lot, making it almost barely noticeable.

Medium bodied, could be slightly thicker. No carbonation, really, only a tiny bit, just enough. Very drinkable, despite the ABV.

What a revelation this one was, possibly the highlight of the tasting.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter
Bottled on 03/15/07 (7 years aged)
I cracked this baby open to celebrate the birth of my first child, Maelyn! :)

Appearance
Deep mahogany brown with no head. Some light penetration with a good clarity. Glaze-like layer of lacing.

Nose
Caramel cubes, sherry, caramelized brown sugar, raisins, rum-raisin, and toffee. Has some solvent aromas due to the elevated abv.

Taste
Exceedingly rich flavor profile. Sherry and rum-raisin. Chewy caramel cubes, toffee, molasses, and caramelized brown sugar. Tobacco, leather, and earth. Touches of fig, dates, and cherry juice. Tons of raisin flavor throughout.

Mouthfeel
Medium-plus bodied, smooth, oily and warming with light carbonation.

Overall
A big, huge, sweet punch in the mouth. The 7 years in the bottle has served this beer well. Quite easy drinking for the 18%. Tastes like a sherry barrel aged English Barleywine drenched in sticky raisins.
