Berliner Weissbier |  4.50% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
In Festina Peche, since the natural peach sugars are eaten by the yeast, the fruit complexity is woven into both the aroma and the taste of the beer so there is no need to doctor it with woodruff or raspberry syrup. Just open and enjoy!

This is one of dogfish head best beers. I cannot believe all of the n00bs posting this beer sucks because they are unfamiliar with the style. Granted this isnt exactly a berliner weisse, but pretty close. This is a light sour people. If you do not like sour beers then pass this one by. Dont review it and give it a 1 or a 2 because you were the idiot who doesnt know different style of beers.

RANT over.

this pours a light cloudy yellow damn near like lemonade.

the taste is that of peaches and apricots with some sourness that finishes very crisp.
great for the hot sweat day after mowing the grass.

Overall impressions. While not quite a berliner weisse a damn good offering from DFH.

Poured into a tulip. Thin white head dissipates almost immediately, very thin lacing clings to the glass. Straw yellow and slightly cloudy. Aroma is sour apples with wild yeast dominant. The tart yeast profile is predominant in the flavor with very little fruit noticeable until the sip is gone. Really mellow peach aftertaste combined with the residual sweetnees gives this more of a tangerine and clementine flavor than peach. Very drinkable but I'd like to have a version of this where the fruit shines more and isn't so muted by the yeast. I'm a huge fan of wild yeast in beers but I expected more fruit intensity even for a Berliner Weisse

Light lemon color and mostly transparent with no head to speak of.

Fresh aroma of peach nectar.

Mild bread character. Lots of peach flavor, just the right level of sweetness. Just a hint of leafy hop.

Light body. Crisp finish. High carbonation.

For a fruit beer it's very good. Well balanced and refreshing.

Poured into a plastic cup in the car before we went in to the Steely Dan concert in New Orleans.

A: Beneath the off-white one finger head that held up for some time, the color is a light gold with flecks of peach. Not much lacing.

S: Very subtle peach smell mixed with grain, wheat and light malts.

T: Better than I was expecting. Smooth, lightly sweet. Peaches collide with wheat. Citrus-y. Nice.

M: Light to medium with light carbonation. Dry finish.

O: A good foreplay to the concert. Could session this one after a bout with the yard.

Poured into my Notre Dame standard pint...

A. Pours a clear, pale straw gold with two fingers of fast-burning head. Lacing is non-existent. Head disappears in an instant.

S. Fresh peach, cracked wheat, some mild yeast. Really juicy and crisp.

T. Peach juice, barley, grain, bread crust.

M. A little light on carb and needs more wheat presence to round out the sweet peach notes.

O. An excellent Berliner. It doesn't have quite the body the standard Berliners do, with the sweet, sugary peach notes dominating. It's also not quite as tart as the more modern examples of the style. What it is, though, is well-made, closer to the classic style than most examples these days. While I definitely would have enjoyed a bit more graininess, this beer is refreshing and delicious. There aren't enough Berliners today, in my opinion. Festina Peche demonstrates why brewers should visit this style more often. Outstanding brew here.
