Poured from a bottle into a goblet glass
A: Pours a deep orange color; hazy. Formed a nice head with solid retention - lasting about 5 minutes.
S: I expected more apricot in the nose, but it is actually quite light in the smell. Overall the smell is mostly bitter hoppiness upfront, light urea, with the slight dry apricot fruitiness sneaking in at the end.
T: The maltiness jumps out for me first; it is stronger than what you'd expect in your standard IPA. Hops play with your tongue more and more through the sip, while a dry sweetness lines the sides and center of the tongue, though only slightly revealing the apricot; it is hard to distinguish from the hops. The fruit taste is clearest on the top and back of the throat when the sip is rolled in the mouth.
M: (Quite) medium bodied with average carbonation. The maltiness is extremely clear in the mouthfeel; more than I would like for an IPA; it makes it a bit too heavy.
O: An interesting creation. Too malty / dark sweetness, alongside lingering apricot bitterness for me to really enjoy. It certainly needs food to relieve the mouth of its lingering drying effect. But certainly worthy of a try!
