12 ounce bottle, 20 ounce nonic. Bottles on date of 2/22/10
A - Nice deep reddish copper. Nice sized (a little over a finger) off white head that stays around throughout the drink and laces the glass nicely.
S - Some earhty American hops. The apricots come through with a fruity kick on the nise.
T - Nice malt balance to a well bittered IPA with apricot fruit flavor shining through.
M - Nice and smooth. Medium body.
D - Fruit flavor is noticeable but does play well with the "real" IPA making it nice to enjoy one or two.
Notes: I like this. There are only a few fruit beers I go for but this one's pretty good. I saw Sam Caligione's (sp??) video where he said for a while DFH let the apricots come through too much in this one and they've recently reigned it in to get back to a real deal American IPA with apricots used for a unique touch. Seems like they're heading back that way, and I actually think the apricots could be scaled back even more and would still show their character and make this a remarkable IPA. As is it is definitely good and derfinitely unique.

A - Copper color with slight haze, small white head, extensive lacing.
S - Fairly muted, flat hop notes, malts in the form of pilsner coming through loud and clear.
T - Hop is mostly in the form of grass notes. A mild fruity note coupled with a cracker and grain malt hit. Turns bitter on the close, illustrating the serious hopping.
M - Given how bitter the turn is on the close, it is surprising how crisp the feel is. There is a gradual build, though, and it does burden the beer a bit you move into the second 6 oz.
O - This hybrid beer promises fruit, but though I think it is a decent IPA - nothing special, mind, but fairly clean and thoroughly hopped - the fruit is mostly lost. The only hint to its presence is a certain sweetness in the middle. Supporting role, indeed.
