Style | ABV
American IPA |  7.00% ABV

Availability: Spring

Notes/Commercial Description:
Aprihop is an American IPA brewed with Pilsner and Crystal malts. It's massively hopped -- in the continuous fashion, of course! -- and the flavor is complemented by the addition of apricots.

After fermentation, the beer is dry hopped with irresponsible amounts of Amarillo hops. The beer has a hoppy aroma, with the apricots playing a supporting role.

The flavor is rich with late hop flavors, and its bitterness is tempered by just the right amount of malt sweetness and fruity undertones from the apricots.

This poured to a clear orange and gold with a small head that faded but didn't disappear. It left a moderate amount of lace.

The smell is mostly apricot. Pale malt and hops come through too. The taste starts with malts and fruit, and then turns to a mild hop bitterness. Apricots last through the finish. The mouthfeel is medium.

This one definitely improved as it warmed.

12oz bottle. Bottle date 2012B. Poured into an unlabeled snifter today, 4/17/2014.

App- Clear dark copper-orange body. One finger white head, nice thickness and good retention. Not much lacing when all is said and done. Fairly dark bodied for an IPA, although it seems to be fairly similar to 60 Minute in appearance.

Smell- Clean toffee malt backbone, nectarines, fresh apricots, floral hops. This really does smell good.

Flavour- Not quite as good as it smells, but this is still very good. On the sweeter side with toffee, caramel sweetness supplemented by citrus, apricot juices and a floral, almost noble hopped, bitterness that's quite tasty. A bit on the sweeter side which is understandable given that there is presumably apricot juice here.

Mouthfeel- On part with 60 Minute IPA, a bit lower in carbonation for the style. Not difficult to drink. Finish is quite dry and refreshing; with a floral aftertaste that isn't particularly bitter, but it certainly is bitter enough that it's enjoyable.

Overall- A sweeter IPA that delivers what it promises on the label. Apricot flavour isn't artificial at all, you even get a little bit of the fruit funkiness. This is an underrated IPA that I really enjoyed drinking.

Bottle poured into a pint glass... Smallish head about a finger maybe a little less. Amber translucent body... Smell is Hops galore and Apricot follows strongly. Taste is also hoppy and fruity... A nice light summer beer. A little sticky after feel... But still good. And I like the art work on the bottle this year...
