This one really needs to warm up a bit. If it's ice cold you won't be picking up any of the heat from the chili.
After a very aggressive pour straight to the bottom of a glass it left a one finger head that quickly dissipated to a thin layer of haze.
Very bready smell some very mild astringent medicinal aroma balanced out by a slight sweetness from the honey. Alcohol esters are there too, but in a good way.
Taste? I love it. Many complex flavors here. First a rush of sweetness, then upon inhaling you taste bready yeast flavors. The cocoa is just barely there in the finish which is also quite bready, but spicy. The heat from the chili is very present in the lingering spicy, dark cocoa after taste. So very unique, which is what I enjoy about this beer.
I thought at first it might be too bubbly, but the effervescence helps to hold up the prickly alcohol. The mouthfeel is, in the end, very pleasant. Somewhat dry finish which I believe is from the yeasts.
Overall I love this beer and recommend you try it, if nothing else then for it's unique character. I'd like to have a bit more heat from the chilies and a bit more chocolate, even though these flavors are present at the end.
Sip this one slowly and don't be afraid to let it warm up and breath just a bit before you drink. I know I'll be coming back for more, this is on damn good beer.

Served from an ice cold bottle into a glass. This is another Ancient Ale selection, love these, this one is from the Americas a chocolate food for the Gods.
Appearance: Golden, cloudy with slight carbonation, a half inch head with an aggressive pour.
Smell: I'm getting a citrus smell with some notes of honey.
Taste: I'm getting some coco some heat and sweet from honey.
Mouth feel: Thick not stout thick but thicker than the usual ale. Lots of floaters, ah hell thats the taste baby.
Overall: I would by this beer just to taste some history, plus its damn good so bonus. This beer is at 9%ABV so a nice choice for your nightly night cap, Cheers.
