A witbier bursting with good karma. Made with dried organic orange slices, fresh-cut lemongrass and a bit of coriander, this Belgian-style white beer is a great thirst quencher.

DATE TASTED: May 8, 2015... GLASSWARE: Weihenstephan weizen... OCCASION: Will’s First Holy Communion eve... APPEARANCE: clear, slightly hazy sallow golden body; soapy, substantial head that laces in inches (!); sparse effervescence; finishes cleanly... AROMA: banana, spice, pepper, yes--some vanilla and coriander; hay wafts in late--a warm spring evening in a bottle ...PALATE: a lively, fresh, creamy swirls inundate the mouthfeel; light and smooth, yet recognizably present... TASTE: a strong, surprising malt base allows for a full-flavored summer sip--orange slice, light banana, a bit of pepper as well... OVERALL: The beer’s name may be indicative of the relaxation the beer provides--the better aspects of the wheat genre are on display; refreshing, flavorful, and smooth; a surprisingly classical approach to a style by a brewery that tends to bend or break conventions...

Look: Clear as day, with a sunny yellow body and a thick, fluffy cumulus cloud of a head.

Smell: Lemony, but with an earthy husk. It makes me think of mustard seed. Notes of apple blossom and honey. Not as spicy as expected. Interesting, but hardly mind blowing.

Taste: Pale malt is the canvas, and yellow fruit (pears, lemons, and a hint of pineapple) is the main theme. But as expected, the spicy undertones are what make Namaste unique. The peppercorns are, as one might imagine, the most noteworthy of the special ingredients listed on the label. They bring a slightly earthy and bitter snap to the finish, a welcome departure from other Witbiers, which are typically more demure. The lemongrass is worth remarking on as well--it introduces a fresh, organic, and lightly sour combination which makes this Witte even more grown up.

Mouthfeel: A medium-light mouthfeel with strong carbonation makes this creation appropriately refreshing. Dry from start to finish, it feels akin to champagne.

Overall: Another well done creative conviction by Dogfish Head. What else is new, right? It doesn't quite call for a standing ovation, but that may be because by having something for everyone, Namaste keeps the peace rather than rocking one's world. Sweet and spritzy, hoppy and complex, this beer is proof that a level of thinking can be achieved by the masses.

Pours a hazy yellow with a brief but sudsy head that leaves little evidence that it had ever been there. Great flavors of the advertised orange, coriander, and lemon grass. Distinct notes of each throughout. Low alcohol and medium body makes this a very drinkable beer though the lemony after-taste can get a bit tiresome.

Enjoyed from a 750 ml bomber. Poured into tulip style glass

A - Nice straw color, Bright white head held onto the glass nice lacing

S - Smelled of citrus very pleasant aroma

T - very mild hint of the lemongrass but not overpowering, no after taste. Citrus not as strong as in the smell

M - Very nice light mouthfeel what I would expect from the style

D - Very drinkable, summer brew while sitting on the deck with friends

Overall a beer I would drink again. Not what I expect from DFH who are known for their big brews. Nice summer brew to be enjoyed.

This beer was a hazy yellow color with a small white head. Very pretty carbonation.

It had a very fresh, outdoorsy aroma. Some citrus, mainly lemon. A bit of spice.

Sweet taste, bready. Lemon and a bit of orange.
Definite coriander.

This beer was light-bodied and refreshing. Perfect for a warm summer day.

From the 12oz. bottle ito a pint glass.
Poured a cloudy straw color with very little head and a little spotty lacing.
The aroma is lemon and coriander and a hint of earthy funk.
The taste is delicious. Lots of citrus on the tongue with a bit of spice and just a light, finishing bitter.
Mouthfeel is fairly light and bubbly.
Overall, a tasty and refreshing beverage.

A: Pale, golden, with a slight opacity. Nicely carbonated - almost perfect. Good head retention in my Witbier glass.

S: You can easily smell the spicy notes, coriander, and lemon - A reviving scent.

T: Lemon and spicy/peppery at the start, but the lemon dominates the aftertaste.

M: Dry finish and decent carbonation. The mouthfeel is very light and would be refreshing if not for the dominant lemons.

D: This *should* be refreshing but the lemon notes just overpower. Sadly, it reminds me too much of furniture polish right now.

Note: I've been a HUGE fan of DFH since 2000 when I lived in DE - back in the "old" brewery where 120 min was offered in bottles of this size. They make supurb beers!

This is just one beer that doesn't quite suit my tastes right now. I would certainly recommend a bottle to try, though. I think I'll give this one another go after a round of golf in hot/humid July afternoon.

A - Pours a slightly hazy pale golden with three fingers of white head. Head dissipates rather quickly and leaves a bit of lacing behind.

S - Coriander is very prevalent in the nose, along with grain and yeast. Also some pepper and gain amounts of citrus. Very aromatic. Definitely draws you in.

T - Pepper and coriander up front with quick a bit of yeast. More grain taste in the middle with citrus and lemongrass. Finishes dry wit citrus zest and pepper.

M - Light crisp mouthfeel with a dry finish.

O - Overall a good witbier. Not something I would want everyday. A little thin in mouthfeel. I did enjoy the dry, spicy character.
