Thanks goes out to slvrmon82 for this awesome hook-up!
This pours a crystal clear, dark amber color. It has light highlights of both ruby and gold. A light and fluffy head of tan colored foam, about two-fingers worth, form and recedes. It leaves a small surface covering film.
Toasted malts. Good touch of smoke. Big nuttiness. Raisins. Nice hints of plantains/bananas. Very nice chocolate presence. Beef jerky.
The nose is quite complex. I can't wait to taste it.
Golden brown sugar hints. Lots of toasted malts. Touches of chocolate. Plantain/banana notes. Hints of lacto sweetness. Toasted nuttiness. Raisin/plum/grape notes. About midway through your palate, it brings out a smokiness that glides on through the finish and lingers for quite a while.
Just slightly less than full-bodied with an almost high level of carbonation. It's smooth enough, but lacks any real creaminess, which I think it would benefit from. The carbonation gives it a slightly sharp finish.
The smokiness would be just a bit too much to promote all night sessioning of this beer. With a couple 'in-betweeners' though, I think that I could polish off several bottles in a session.
