Big thanks to mymrnngjckt for this bottle.
Pours a slightly reddish brown of medium hue. Generates about one finger of somewhat fizzy tan head, which dissipates to only a thin, patchy lace. Not much stick on the sides.
Smell is quite smoky, with a nutty aroma as well. That pecan-wood smoked malt is producing the dominant aroma for sure. Has some caramel malt sweetness as well.
Taste is also very smoky and nutty. Those are the dominant flavors as they were the dominant aromas. I'm not finding the plantains at all; there is some caramel-like sweetness and I'm sure the plantains contributed some sweetness, but it's not distinctive. Likewise with the carob. It's all a bit muddled I think and overwhelmed by the smoke and pecan. This does taste slightly charred or even a bit burned, but not overwhelmingly so.
Mouthfeel is a bit less than a medium body and feels lacking in that regard. A bit too thin, and a little sharp on the tongue too. A softer, creamier and fuller feel would have been nice.
At the end of the day there is some good flavor here, although I think it could have been better. Not something I would drink with any regularity, as even this bottle feels like a lot to finish by myself. Not super drinkable, but interesting. Worth a try if you can find it, but be sure to share.

From a bottle, pours a dark copper brown with good carbonation with a fluffy off-white head. This is from 2010 and from the smell, hard to believe this beer is over 4 years old. It is very fragrant.
The nose is dominated by banana, caramel, burnt brown sugar, butterscotch. The flavor is a little peat smoke, roasted/fried banana, caramel, chestnuts. There is a little oxidation going on and for only 6%, the booze is biting on the palate. It is very sweet and full of sugary notes.
Overall, ehhhh. It might have been better fresh, but still holds up.
