Dogfish Head description from website: Our latest ancient ale is based on a beer the Etruscans of ancient Italy would have been drinking around 800 B.C.. It's made with pomegranate, raisins, hazelnut flour, capelli senatore (an heirloom grain), 3 types of honey, gentian root and tree resin.

Enjoyed at the brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, DE

A: half finger head on a murky golden brown body making me think of old bananas.

S: very musty malts with medicinal grape and strawberry hint of menthol as well opening the sinuses a bit.

T: again very metallic and medicinal with grape notes lingering deep into the aftertaste. Opens with a nice malt profile moving to a very spicy and fruity finish.

M: medium and creamy body and moderate carbonation.oily, coating the palate.

Overall: this is a strange and unique beer that grows on you as consumed. Worth trying as is the case with most in this series.

Complete and total surprise on tap.

Pours slightly cloudy amber with very little head.

Tine bit on the funky side--almost trying to get to a sour with the mouth feel without the most of the acid. Esthers come through--pear and dried fruits. Had a little essence of homemade wine. Alcohol completely hidden

I think this one nails it. Really worth a shot --unique. Tasted like very little made today
