This poured out as a dark brown color with a thin cream colored head on top. The retention was minimal and so was the lacing. The smell of the beer was of a traditional Saison style, earthy yeast, with the addition of the roasted malts and coffee. The taste of the beer I thought was quite nice, there was a good balance of grain, coffee and chocolate notes. The mouthfeel was light bodied, good amount of carbonation with a decent dry finish to it. Overall this was a pretty good dark Saison.

12oz, snifter
DFH brewpub on 12/1/12
A: Pours a very dark brown. Seems to be lots of carbonation. Tiny carbonation bubbles. Thin layer of light tan head that lingers for a while.
S: Lots of smoke. Campfire. Bacon. Farmhouse yeast. It's a little strange. Not pulling the peppers under all that smoke character.
T: Upfront, that campfire bacon flavor. It's really interesting for the style. Meshes well with the farmhouse yeast spiciness. It's not my favorite beer, but I don't mind it. I get some spice, but seems more from the yeast strain than the peppers that were used in the boil. Lingering flavors into a nice dry Saison finish.
M: Medium bodied.
